Jordan Griff has spoken about the controversy surrounding Jonathan Tamayo’s Main Event win at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament. Tamayo created history by winning the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament, the 55th tournament of the series, held in Las Vegas. He ranked first, taking the prize of $10,000,000.
However, even as the admiration of the win is just beginning, there has been some discussion about Tamayo allegedly cheating to win the prestigious event. Some poker fans raised questions about Tamayo getting assistance between hands from his rail. On his rail were Joe McKeehen and Dominik Nitsche. The former won the WSOP Championship in 2015, earning $7,683,346.

That controversy was recently discussed by Jordan Griff, the man who won 2nd place at the 2024 WSOP and was one of the opponents for Tamayo at the Main Event final table. At the end of the play, Griff took home a prize of $6 Million. While conversing with poker player Doug Polk and the co-owner of the Lodge Poker Club on YouTube, Jordan Griff spoke about those allegations.
“I saw him calling things out, I saw him going to the rail, but you know, at no point did I see what was on the laptop or try to eavesdrop on what he was saying,” Griff answered. “In any sport, you don’t go over to the other team’s sideline, the other team’s dugout and say, ‘hey, what film are you guys looking at? You know, can I take a look?’ So, now, there may have been suspicions in my mind, you know, I thought that if there was anything nefarious going on, as we saw, there was cameras that caught it.”

Jordan Griff also said that if he had confirmation that the rail was ‘running sims’, he wouldn’t have refrained from talking about it on the floor. In the same conversation, Griff expressed dissatisfaction with fans discussing the controversy and taking away from the Main Event win celebration. Tamayo defeated Griff and Niklas Astedt and Astedt took home prize money of $4 Million for the third place.
The 2024 WSOP event was the latest tournament under the World Series of Poker aegis, considered one of the biggest and the most prestigious poker events globally. Apart from this one niggle, the event went off pretty smoothly.
