John Gorsuch makes comeback to win Millionaire Maker Event

How many times do you get to see a player coming back from as little as 2 Big Blinds to win a World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet? Well, that’s what happened today at WSOP 2019 when USA’s John Gorsuch topped an 8,809-entry field to win Event #19: $1,500 NL Millionaire Maker for of course, a million dollars!

When play was 7-handed yesterday, he had reached 2 BBs in the Milly Maker Event, but it wasn’t too long before he started rising and eventually, he managed to bag $1,344,930 in prize money and his first gold bracelet. The 42-year old beat Japan’s Kazuki Ikeuchi in heads-up, who had the lead after Day 4 of the tournament.

Talking about the win, he said, “I started a company and had over 100 people with $15 million in revenue, and this is still the biggest day of my life. I’m a millionaire. I need to call my financial advisor and CPA. The CPA literally just emailed two days ago about my second-quarter estimates. Now I need to re-estimate my second quarter.”

Clearly, there are fewer joys for a poker player than winning a gold bracelet. In third place was Indian-origin American player Lokesh Garg and all of these players took away handsome prizes in this tournament. The final hand was interesting as Gorsuch spiked two pairs on the turn with queen-seven and shoved all-in. Ikeuchi held pocket Aces and sadly, they couldn’t hold as the Japanese player had to settle for second place.
