Joao Vieira, Susan Faber win maiden bracelets at WSOP 2019

Event #70: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed

Prior to this, Portuguese pro Joao Vieira had 6 cashes in WSOP 2019 but none of real significance. However, it was all set to change int his tournament as the poker player won his first piece of WSOP jewellery while also winning what became only the 4th gold bracelet for Portugal.

Vieira beat a massive field of 815 entries to take down this tournament and we know for a fact that this couldn’t have been easy. Beating plenty of pros along the way, Vieira was up against 4-time bracelet winner and 2009 WSOP Main Event winner Joe Cada in heads-up. Eventually, he got there and was awarded a career-best prize of $758,011 for the effort.

“I have been trying to develop my live reads for such a long time. On a crucial moment, in a crucial hand of the biggest tournament, on the biggest day of my professional career; I found a call based on all the hard work I have done over the past four years,” said the winner after he pocketed his maiden gold bracelet.

Event #71: $500 SALUTE TO WARRIORS No-Limit Hold’em

This was a tournament in honour of all the US Army members including veterans and newcomers. This was a special tournament as the winner became the first female winner in an open tournament at WSOP 2019, apart from the Ladies Event. It was Susan Faber who got to the title, beating 1,723 players on the way to her maiden gold bracelet.

Prior to this, she barely had around $55k in live cashes even though she has been playing poker since the last 10 years. She was convinced to enter this tournament because her husband is a veteran too. Here, she added $121,161 to her bank account while also taking home a shiny new bracelet.

“I am so excited and so thrilled to be a bracelet winner! This was definitely on my bucket list. I play the circuit events in Cherokee and I was planning on playing the Main Event this year but some of my family members talked me out of it, probably because of the money, but I’m sure glad they did because I wouldn’t have played this event, and I wouldn’t have won my first bracelet,” said Faber.

Final Table Results:

  1. Susan Faber – $121,161
  2. Rob Stark – $74,785
  3. Dean Yoon – $53,887
  4. Chris Canan – $34,248
  5. Taylor Carroll – $28,897
  6. Jordan Knackstedt – $21,510
  7. Jose Annaloro – $16,190
