Abhinav Iyer, Dhaval Mudgal Advance to Day 2 of APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 ME

APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024, the live poker series sponsored by Natural8, is upon us, and the record-breaking series is attracting some big names from India to the felts. This series promises a staggering TWD 150 Million in guarantee and is spread across 108 trophy events. It aims to break its own March 2024 record. In March, the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taipei 2024 broke records with a total prize pool of TWD 383 Million, a record for Taiwan poker. It saw 2,223 entries, with the total number of entries going more than 13,000, making it the most expensive APT event.

The current series has events that take place until 7th October 2024 at two venues: the Asia Poker Arena in Taiwan and the Chinese Mahjong League in Taipei City. Several Indian poker players are among the Day 1 survivors lists for events such as the Main Event Flight A, while a few others claimed ITM finishes in the Mystery Bounty Hunter event.

Indians At APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024

Main Event Flight 1A

Abhinav Iyer has survived with 182,300 chips. He has shown his skills at the poker tables several times and is one of the few Indians who has clinched a WSOP bracelet. Earlier this year, his stellar performance at the USOP Hai Phong 2024 had the poker audience talking. He snagged a third place at Event #12: VND 120 Million Superstar Challenge, the high-stakes tournament that had some of the most seasoned veterans of the business, to mention a hefty buy-in.

Abhinav Iyer tops the leaderboard in Event #32: High Roller – Double Stack at the end of Day 1. The WSOP bracelet winner and APT Ho Chi Minh Main Event Champion in 2019 is currently sitting on 1,598,000 chips. Martin Chenan Carnero from the United States is close behind with 1,437,000 chips, while South Korea’s Wongyu Kang rounds off the top three stacks of the event with 1,428,000 chips.

Karan Gupta, another Indian player, has progressed to Day 2 with 121,000 chips.

Dhaval Mudgal took home pay of TWD 17,000 for his efforts in the Mystery Bounty Hunter event here at the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 and also managed to move into Day 2 of the ME. Mudgal has consistently brought glory to Indian poker players and has several times clinched seats in the top ten cash-outs, including shipping the APPT Manila and taking home PHP 96,000 at the PHP 5,000 No Limit Hold’em—Flipout. and #Event 20 PHP 10,000,000+1,000,000 No Limit Hold’em – Freezeout, taking home PHP 157,160,000 and more.

Sriharsha Doddapaneni also progressed to Day 2 of the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 Main Event with 37,600 chips in hand. This reg has marched to a tune of his own, winning titles at WPT Vietnam and showing off his exemplary poker skills. In 2023, he shipped the Megastack High Roller Event, which culminated in a payday of VND 824,500,000 (~$ 2,255).

Saransh Garg also etched his name in the ITM list, finishing 3rd at Event #18: Tick Tock BOOM – Super Hold’em, which had prize money of TWD 158,816. Garg had a payout of TWD 115,000, and the man who stood at the mount for this one was Fu-Hsin Peng, who took home TWD 158,816.

Main Event Flight B

Five Indians have now survived the Main Event Flight B, which has a GTD of TWD 65,000,000. They are Siddharth Karia, Yash Khandelwal, Kunal Patni, Somshekhar Sanampur and Raju Jaruplavath. Their chip count is pretty low, ranging from Patni’s 46,000 to Yash Khandelwal’s 91,500,  with Chee Yong Sim of Malaysia leading that list with 308,400.

These individuals’ exemplary achievements on the felts could make the Indian poker community all the more proud. With so many popular Indian players at APT Taipei PC 2024, the question remains: How many will ship events?
