Besides his passion for poker, we also got to know Dhall’s fondness for Cricket as well as Football. And now, keep reading about the latest SSS Millionaire’s splendid Sunday run…
Hi Parikshit, congratulations on your victory! How does it feel to be crowned the SSS Millionaire on Spartan?
“Firstly, thank you, it really feels great to be crowned Millionaire champion title. I am actually quite overwhelmed and ecstatic!”
Before diving into details. When and how did you discover this game?
“It was back in 2011 when I first discovered the game of poker and started off with INR 100 buy-in at a friend’s place and thereafter I continued playing.”
Was there any point of time in the tournament when you believed you could win?
“Yes, absolutely every tournament I play the aim is to go for it! And the SSS Millionaire was no different. But yes, since it was a huge tournament with an even bigger guarantee, I did have some butterflies in my stomach at the end stages.”
Tell us about your SSS Millionaire journey. Can you share some interesting hands that you played in the tournament?
“Well, I qualified both flights of Millionaire but unfortunately, I bagged a single stack to move forward to Day 2. Even though I just had one stack, I was quite confident to make my way through the field if I could bring out my best.”
“Initially I doubled up quite early in the tournament when my pocket KK went all in against a big stack who had AK. The action continued and when 30 people were remaining, I was down to just 3 big blinds but thankfully I got a good run of hands during that crucial phase and I was back in the middle of the pack!”
“One hand which I feel was very crucial was when I opened AK from cut off and Arsh Grover defended the big blind. I had the absolute nut hand on the flop and both the stacks went all in on the flop itself. He had a nut flush draw and the eventual run out favoured me giving a big chip lead with around 12 people remaining.”
How was the pressure on the FT with such massive prizes at stake?
“Well of course there was much pressure on the final table but somewhere I knew if only I could play my A-game being the one in chip lead and put pressure on the ones with shorter stacks I would do well.”
Would you say that this is one of your best wins till date?
“Definitely yes! This is my best win till date, and I hope it is just the beginning. I believe there’s many more to come. Also, my parents were elated with the result. There were very happy!”
The COVID-19 pandemic means people are tied down to their homes 24×7. How has that affected your poker routine and mental game.
“With the entire COVID–19 and nationwide lockdown situation the guarantees of all tourneys across all sites have received a major boost so it is actually a great time to put in a lot of volume and make the most of it. And due to this my grind routine is almost from 3 pm to past midnight only as long as I am deep in the tournament.”
So, you are a Millionaire now, any plans with the prize money?
“Well, I think in due course of time, I want to reinvest this incredible prize money in poker itself. Also, planning to travel and play events around the world.”
Who are the poker players, both domestic and international, that you look up to?
“I really look up to Aditya Agarwal and Sriharsha Doddapaneni. And talking about international players they have always been, Sam Grafton, Seth Davies, Stephen Chidwick, and Jason Koon.”
