In Conversation With Manoj Jain, COO, Delta Corp

Delta Corp Limited is one of the leading names in the Indian casino and real money gaming industry. The company owns several brands in the casino and hospitality sectors, including Adda52 and the Deltin Royale casino in Goa, as well as Kings Casino in Panaji, Goa. Deltin offers a complete experience to passionate players, ranging from exclusive gaming facilities in ships to jetties and feeder boats.

Gutshot Magazine recently contacted Mr Manoj Jain, COO of Delta Corp, regarding the launch of their latest poker property, Immortals Mega Poker Festival, in Goa. He spoke at length about various aspects of the casino and poker industry in India, ranging from trends that they are seeing among poker players to the role of cutting-edge technology in real money gaming in India. Here’s the transcript of that conversation:

1) What inspired your company to launch this live poker event, and how does it align with your overall business strategy?

Our decision to launch the Immortals series was driven by the rapid growth of poker in India and our desire to create a platform that caters to players across the spectrum—from amateurs to seasoned high rollers. We saw a unique opportunity to innovate within this booming vertical by making the game accessible to all through a variety of buy-in levels starting as low as ₹10,000. This inclusivity supports our broader strategy to democratize luxury gaming experiences and reinforce our reputation as a pioneer in India’s gaming industry. By engaging a wider audience, we are not only expanding our customer base but also enabling and empowering the gaming community.

2) Can you walk us through the planning process? What were the biggest challenges you faced in organizing this event?

Organizing the Immortals series required meticulous planning, with a focus on creating an unparalleled poker experience that aligned with our high standards of service. The main challenge was ensuring that our infrastructure could support the diverse needs of a multi-day event without disrupting the everyday operations of our existing services. We addressed this by enhancing our venue capabilities and ensuring that our team was well-prepared and equipped to handle the increased foot traffic and operational demands. Effective communication and coordination across departments were crucial in overcoming these challenges and ensuring the event’s success.

3) How does this event differentiate itself from other poker events in the industry?

The Immortals series is distinct because it combines the thrill of competitive poker with the allure of luxury gaming. Unlike typical poker tournaments, our event spans 15 days and includes a variety of poker styles, catering to different player preferences—from No-Limit Hold’em to Pot-Limit Omaha. We also added a layer of excitement with daily lucky draws featuring high-end prizes like iPhones and Apple Watches, AirPods, a cumulative leaderboard with rewards exceeding ₹1 crore and three substantial Freeroll tournaments totalling ₹40 lakhs in value. The Immortals series, with its unprecedented 15-day schedule and broad array of poker formats, establishes itself as a grand event, reshaping the landscape of poker tournaments in India.

4) What are the key metrics you’ll be using to measure the success of this poker event?

To gauge the success of the Immortals series, we are looking beyond traditional metrics like registration numbers and revenue. We have developed and introduced a special new poker software that offers some exciting features that enhance the gaming experience and provide valuable insights that help us analyze and manage the poker game better.

With the introduction of this innovative software, we have been able to monitor the number of games in progress on each table in real-time, track the duration of each hand down to the last second for both Texas Hold’em Poker and Omaha, record the time spent by each guest at a table, Keep a record of the number of hands played by each guest, and evaluate dealer performance by calculating the number of hands dealt per hour.

This software has provided us with a comprehensive suite of features that have assisted us in streamlining poker game management, gaining actionable insights, and enhancing the overall gaming experience.

We know for sure that 700 unique players have registered for the tournament since 22nd August. Anil Gulati leads the leaderboard, clocking approximately 81 hours on TX and 56 hours on PLO, with 2,891 hands played.

We are also keenly focused on participant engagement, the atmosphere on the floor, and player feedback. These qualitative measures will help us understand the event’s impact on our brand loyalty and player satisfaction. Additionally, we are tracking the effectiveness of our marketing initiatives and the growth in our database of poker enthusiasts, which are critical for assessing the long-term benefits of hosting such an ambitious event.

5) What strategies did you use to attract top-tier players and large audiences to this event?

To ensure the Immortals series emerged as a standout mega event, our strategy was comprehensive and multifaceted. By offering cash games across all stakes, we catered to players with varying financial capabilities, enhancing the event’s inclusivity. The series was further enriched by a dynamic leaderboard system that encouraged ongoing engagement and competition. We also included high-value freeroll tournaments, providing an opportunity for participants to win big without any buy-in, thereby attracting a broader audience. The pinnacle of our event, the Colossus tournament, targeted competitive high-stakes players with its substantial prize pool. Through our promotional campaigns, we emphasized these elements—varied stakes, engaging leaderboards, lucrative freerolls, and the prestigious Colossus tournament—creating a compelling package that attracted a diverse spectrum of poker enthusiasts.

6) Can you share any insights or trends you’ve noticed in the poker industry that influenced the format or features of this tournament?

We constantly monitor the poker industry’s evolution. This has enabled us to adapt agilely as the industry grows and transforms. The format of our Immortals tournament was also heavily influenced by the various trends we have witnessed in recent years in the casino gaming industry. The key trends driving our latest tournament include:

Multi-Format Games

Avid players appreciate variety in game formats. This insight prompted us to include Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) and No-Limit Hold’EM (NLH)—two of the most popular poker variants—in our newest tournament.

Freeroll Gameplay

We have also observed a growing preference for freeroll tournaments, which allow players to participate in games without the burden of an entry fee. Since freeroll events create more excitement and better attract new players, we have made this format an integral part of the Immortals live poker tournament.

Inclusion of the Freeze-Out Format

Due to its single buy-in format, many poker players consider the freeze-out variant the purest and most exciting form of the game. In response to this sentiment, we have also included a freeze-out event in Immortals for fans of this format.

By aligning this tournament with these industry trends and player preferences, we aim to deliver an experience that exceeds the expectations of both modern and classic poker enthusiasts.

7) How do you see the role of technology evolving in live poker tournaments, particularly with regard to streaming, online engagement, or digital enhancements?

We strongly believe that seamlessly integrating technology can significantly enhance the live poker experience. This has led us to seek innovative ways to enhance the poker experience for both our on-site players and our growing online audience.

Live streaming is one of the key technological advancements we have recently embraced. The partnership with Adda52, our online platform, has been instrumental in this effort. Through this collaboration, we have transformed our live tournaments into interactive experiences that engage both players and viewers.

Additionally, we are attempting to leverage technology in other features, like digital leaderboards, real-time player statistics, and interactive chat options. These features help boost online engagement and create a more connected and immersive poker ecosystem.

Looking ahead, we see tremendous potential for further technological integration. In the coming years, we may consider experimenting with digital enhancements using Augmented Reality (AR) overlays for live streams. We believe this could provide viewers with instant access to key metrics like player stats and odds calculations, thereby making the experience more engaging.

8) Given the increasing popularity of online poker, how do you balance the digital and live aspects of your business? Do you see live tournaments as a way to drive online engagement, or vice versa?

We view the relationship between live and online poker as symbiotic rather than competitive. In fact, both formats offer highly unique experiences that complement each other and create a synergy that enhances the overall appeal of the game. We have observed that many players who start their poker journey online are often drawn to the excitement and atmosphere of live tournaments. Similarly, experienced live poker players appreciate the convenience and accessibility that online platforms provide.

Recognizing this natural overlap, we have developed a strategy that leverages the strengths of both formats. The seamless integration between Deltin Casinos and Adda52 — both under the visionary leadership of Mr Jaydev Modi — has enabled us to create a comprehensive poker ecosystem that caters to players across the spectrum.

By live streaming a tournament like Immortals for poker fans around the world through Adda52, we are creating a flagship experience that captures the thrill of an in-person high-stakes poker game and also inspires online players to transition to live play. We view these tournaments as more than mere standalone events. They could be catalysts for online engagement and vice versa. This unique approach allows us to maintain a strong presence in both the live and online poker markets.
