In 2024, online gaming and real-money gaming had a bumper year globally, including in India. Over the years, much progress has been made in poker in India, bringing about a sea change for the industry. In this article, we look at how online poker evolved in India and abroad in 2024.
It is said that a particular sport becomes mainstream once it is broadcast on a mainstream and popular entertainment channel. The game of poker did just that when JioCinema announced an exclusive series, Poker Masterclass, that taught viewers about its intricacies. The series was shot between May and June in Goa and made available on JioCinema in July.
It’s time to add India’s first poker learning game show series, Poker Masterclass, to your watchlist. Get ready for a high-stakes thrill ride of action and emotion!

Later, JioCinema continued its coverage of the Poker Sports League into 2024, cementing the concept of poker being a lucrative viewer sport. Channels are looking at poker content, and even on foreign shores, television behemoth CBS is adding poker to their content bouquet. The broadcast channel added WPT content in 2024.
World Poker Tour is one of the most celebrated poker brands in the world. The company cemented its position in India with a deal with PokerBaazi, which would see the latter host WPT online tournaments in the country.
The collaboration between the two big brands was good news for Indian poker players, who could now access some of the most exciting tournaments and games from the comfort of their homes.
Another major poker brand that made inroads in India was the Asian Poker Tour. This was possible because of a deal with Nautral8 India, which made APT India 2024 possible. The series took place from November 10 to December 1, 2024, and 20 APT trophies were up for grabs.

Natural8 India has long been a leader in foreign collaborations, with the poker tournament organizer sending players to APT Phu Quoc and APT Taipei in 2024.
These are just some of the major updates that happened in the global and Indian poker scene. Poker has begun peaking in India, with several Indians now consistently featuring on ITM lists of some of the biggest poker tournaments. For example, more than 5 Indian players saw money at various events of the recently concluded USOP Hai Phong. While this might not have had a direct effect on online poker, those who do play online would definitely feel inspired to be at an international one sooner rather than later.
