Harman Singha REVEALS The Story Behind Hosting The Player Hunt 2

The Player Hunt Season 2 has been making headlines since it was launched. The participants are some of the most sharp minds in the poker industry and watching them play would be considered a surreal experience. Since the tremendous success of the poker reality show’s first-ever show, the latest edition promises high-octane drama and some fulfilling thrills. But we also wanted to speak with Harman Singha who’s been associated with this poker reality show as host alongside brother Rannvijay Singha.

Excerpts from the interview with Harman Singha

From Merchant Navy to pursuing acting and hosting a The Player Hunt, how did the transition happen?

It was a slightly rocky transition. I was studying further after sailing for three years to become an officer in the Merchant Navy. At that time, I got a chance to visit sets of my brother’s shoot and fell in love with the work behind the camera. I have done all sorts of jobs, from being an intern, to a reality show producer, writer, director, and producer. Eventually after 5-6 years, I started working in front of the camera as a host and actor. It took me a long time to find the courage and confidence to face the camera.

Your brother Rannvijay Singha, also a co-host, credits you for his interest in poker. How do you view the evolved perception about the game at large, over the years?

Back in the day, I used to be defensive when someone said something negative about poker. I would state the facts, give them the background of the sport, talk about the mental ability required to be good at the game. In 2022, I actually feel people who still judge the game or compare it to ordinary card games are ignorant. Poker has grown so massively across the globe and within India that if you don’t know about the sport, you must be living under a rock.

How would you describe your association with PokerHigh and The Player Hunt?

It’s been the perfect symbiosis of ideas, will and action. Since our first meeting, Gaurav, Nitin, Pranav, Rannvijay and I have had very clear goals—to grow the sport with integrity while giving young poker players a platform to shine. It’s been over two years since we started The Player Hunt. We understand that this platform will become mainstream at some point and everyone will stand up and take notice, it’s only a matter of time. We are in this for the long run.

What are your thoughts about showcasing the merits of the game through the OTT route?

It’s time to let the game speak for itself. I believe in letting the numbers do the talking. Our content is free to watch for everyone on YouTube and it gives me immense joy that we’ll be telecasting this season on Rannvijay’s YouTube channel. It gives us a direct link to the young and restless trendsetters of the country.

Any advice for the aspiring contestants?

Find your why. If it’s fame or money, stop now. Knowing why you do what you do can make the process less of a struggle and more of a beautiful journey. Stay away from people claiming to be experts.

Generally, in your opinion, what makes a good host stand-out?

Every good host must have a unique style. I’ve had the privilege to watch my brother and his contemporaries from MTV Nikhil Chinnapa and Cyrus Sahukar up close. Each of them has a deep understanding of the subject matter they represent, be it comedy, music or reality shows. They have inspired me to find my own unique voice.

What can poker enthusiasts and experts look forward to in the third season of The Player Hunt?

The third season will be the defining leg of the show, we aim to take the show to a much larger and wider geographical footprint.

Who’s a better poker player, you or Rannvijay?

Rannvijay is such a perceptive human being that he can read his opponents better than most professional poker players. He is much better than me now at the game and he wins usually when we get together for our weekly poker nights. The student has outdone his teacher.
