22 people detained in Gandhinagar Gambling Raid

As India began relaxation in this pandemic lockdown, several companies have started getting back into business. In the past few months the police have been on their toes conducting and coordinating raids throughout the country for illegal activities. From not only adopting social distancing regulations to raiding gambling rackets, the police have made sure that the people are safe even though they are confined in our own homes.

In the wee hours of Sunday, a gambling den was raided by a police team of Infocity police station. The raid took place around 3.30 am at Hotel Sleep-In located on the fifth floor of Pramukh Tangent building at Gandhinagar bypass road in the city. The police arrested and detained 22 people, and recovered cash worth INR 15.9 Lakhs at the hotel.

A police officer stated “A raid team visited Hotel Sleep and discovered that 22 persons were engaged in gambling with cards, plastic coins and cash worth Rs 15,92,640.”  He added “We have detained the accused under IPC sections 188 (Disobedience to order given by public servant) and 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of a disease), and relevant sections of the Public Gambling Act”.
