Goonjan Mall is a very known entity in the Indian poker industry, always among the top few names when it comes to major tournaments online. Recently, he has also been touring a lot to play tournaments across Asia and he’s pretty entertaining when it comes to live poker streams as well.
Last night in particular was one of his best in recent times, taking down not one but two signature tournaments across different online poker platforms. He won a title on Spartan Poker a couple of hours after winning a title on PokerStars India, adding a massive amount to his bankroll last night and also getting the perfect start to his weekend. Here’s a summary of his victories last night…
Among the most popular weekly offerings on Spartan, Elite is one for the best players in India, offering major prizes but with a hefty buy-in of INR 11,000. 226 entries registered to take the prize pool up to INR 22.6 Lakh and only the top 23 players got paid last night, with a minimum cash of INR 26,216.
What begun at 9pm last evening ended at 5:06am this morning with Goonjan Mall ending victorious, playing as ‘gmtesting’ on Spartan Poker as he does on most platforms. He added a massive prize of INR 5,25,450 to his bank account last night, picking up this top prize after he beat Parikshit Dhall aka ‘zapdos1311’ in heads-up. Dhall has also been on a good run recently and bagged INR 3,55,950 for his runner-up finish yesterday.
You know Elite is among the best when you see the big names in the money each week. Yesterday too, those who received a pay-out included Chandan Arora (23rd), Vinod Megalmani (15th), Sumit Sapra (13th), Sajal Gupta (12th), Ashish Ahuja (11th), Arsh Grover (6th), Rohit Mishra (5th), and Kanishka Samant (4th).
Just about an hour and a half before Elite ended, Mall would’ve been delighted with his INSCOOP victory, taking down the featured tournament of the day. With a buy-in of INR 4,400, Uppercut began at 8pm last night and a participation of 315 entries meant the guarantee was passed slightly.
59 of these players received a pay-check of a minimum of INR 3,386 but it was a bounty tournament, so those prizes were also added to players’ winnings. Eventually, Mall, who plays as ‘gmtesting.ind’ on PokerStars ending up beating ‘diwalibonus’ in heads-up and bagging the top prize of INR 2,40,633 which included INR 1.28 Lakh in bounty prizes and INR 1.12 Lakh from the tournament prize pool.
Once again, among those getting paid in this tournament were a lot of known names including Parikshit Dhall (47th), Rubin Labroo (38th), Lakshpal Singh (35th), Ashish Ahuja (30th), Arjanveer Chadha (27th), PokerStars Team Pro Aditya Agarwal (10th) and many others.
Apart from these two titles, Goonjan also narrowly missed winning Fri-Yay on PokerBaazi last night, losing to Jayjit Ray aka ‘england’ in heads-up who added INR 2.38 Lakh to his bankroll. As for Mall, he won INR 1.67 Lakh for finishing second. What a night it was for the player. Talking to Gutshot about this night in poker, Mall said, “It would have been nice to win the featured tournament on Pokerbaazi too. Next target is the triple crown.”
