The sale of the WSOP brand to GGPoker is one of the biggest sales in the poker industry and is one of the most logical ones as well. While WSOP is a behemoth when it comes to live poker brands, GGPoker has carved a name for itself in the world of online poker. With the amalgamation of the two brands, the poker industry and poker fans can gear up for a seamless online and offline experience.
WSOP has existed since the 1970s and is one of the biggest live poker series in the world, attracting the poker industry’s who’s who. The series is the founder of iconic poker properties like the WSOP bracelet, which poker players vie for whenever they get the chance. GGPoker is an online poker operator established in 2014. The company expanded to Europe in 2017.
Its correlation with WSOP began in 2020 when it co-hosted the World Series of Poker Main Event after the live tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even back then, trade analysts believed that this was a match made in heaven, as WSOP brought its legacy to the table and GGPoker brought its technology and expertise in online real-money gaming.
The deal has worked well for both brands, with GGPoker winning a Guinness Book of World Records citation after the 2020 WSOP bracelet series’s ME’s prize pool became the largest ever for a single online poker tournament. The event attracted 5,802 entries and a prize pool of about $27,559,500. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength.
We will update the page with the winners as and when they are announced.
