GATO 2.0 conference and award show wraps up in Gurugram

IAMAI, or the Internet and Mobile Association of India recently hosted the ‘GATO 2.0 – Gaming for Tomorrow’ at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram. The conference went underway on 24^th April and saw a host of significant entities of the industry giving their two cents on multiple issues concerning the gaming industry of the country.

The one-day conference involved discussions on the general gaming market in India, with a focus on digital gaming. The experts who attended the conference discussed potential growth options for the market and its future scenario. Special workshops sessions for developers by Amazon Internet Services Private Limited (AISPL) and Amazon Alexa were also to be seen at the venue.

The keynote address was delivered by Digbijoy Shukla of Amazon. He said that the gaming industry of this country can become a $1 billion market by 2020, reason being that the mobile engagement is increasing rapidly and is expected to touch 700 million users in couple years.

Key speakers of the industry like Amin Rozani of Spartan Poker, Akshat Rathee of NODWIN, Rajan Navani of JetSynthesys, Sundar Raman of Reliance Industries, were present and spoke about various topics concerning the gaming ecosystem.

Subjects like the rise of Artificial Intelligence, virtual reality gaming, esports segment in India, etc. were tackled. The aesthetics of marketing a game in India, Responsible Gaming, Player Protection and Safety, etc. were also included as the topic of discussion.

The conference also hosted workshops which were an effort to help build developer skills for the gaming community of India. AISPL and Amazon Alexa’s workshops include ‘Build the Cake Walk Skill’, ‘The future of voice-based experiences in gaming’, and ‘Add memory to the skill to improve your Voice User Interface.’

The GATO awards show was conducted for the first time and it recognized the efforts by the entities in the gaming field. Most notably, Mobile Premier League, a real-money gaming app, received the emerging Indian gaming company award, given to it by the illustrious jury. Here’s the complete list of winners –
