GamingMonk raises funding from listed Japanese company

GamingMonk, an eSports tournaments organiser based in India, has raised $100,000 (~INR 69 Lakhs) from a Japanese listed gaming company called GameWith Inc. The latter owns and operates a website concerning news and content related to the eSports industry.

Ashwin Haryani (below, right), co-founder of GamingMonk said, “The Indian gaming industry is still at infancy stage and needs the expertise of stalwarts like GameWith to flourish at its best and with this partnership we are very hopeful to change the experience of our gamers as well the perceptions of non-gamers.

GamingMonk was founded by Haryani and Abhay Sharma, two Amity University graduates, in November 2014. The company first ventured into e-commerce with consoles, games and other gaming accessories on offer, but later diverted to organizing eSports events. It now organizes online and offline eSports events across the country.

Sharma weighed in on the development saying, “There are exciting times ahead for the gamers in India. GameWith brings a lot on board with their experience and leading position in the Japanese market. Their insights will help us in building a better product for the Indian gaming market.”

Takumi Imaizumi, CEO of GameWith also commented on the partnership and said, “The gaming industry in India has strong growth potential and GamingMonk, led by a strong management team, is well-positioned to further benefit from industry trends. We are excited about the company’s growth prospects and proud to have this opportunity to support the journey.

Last October saw GameMonk receive INR 4 Crores in seed funding from Japan-based Incubate FundRajan Anandan (VP of Google India and South East Asia), Stellaris VenturesSmile GroupAdvantEdge fund, Samir Khurana and others. The company, with the new monies from GameWith, hopes to enhance its product development, team building and brand marketing. The company, however, did not reveal its valuation for which it received the funding.
