Gaming Platforms Raise Donations To Support COVID-19 Relief


Online gaming platforms, poker platforms, gaming developers and influencer marketing firms organised live streams to bring together influencers and raise donations for the COVID-19 relief fund. A few companies also donated directly to PM CARES to support COVID relief in India. 

Mobile Premier League, an esports and skill gaming platform along with an online fund platform ‘Give India’ scheduled ‘Gamers for India Fundraiser’ for the COVID relief today. Based on this initiative, India’s game streamers and popular gamers decided to leverage MPL’s Youtube and Facebook handles to game, talk and raise money for ‘Give India’ for the fight against COVID-19. According to reports from Mint, ‘The O2 initiative’ had been organized by PokerBaazi.com, an online poker gaming platform owned by Baazi Games. It promised to donate the entire fees raised through the tournament to the online covid relief platform ‘Give India’ in order to procure oxygen cylinders. The tournament had 1,600 poker players who came forward to extend their hand to contribute toward the initiative: thus, raising . 3.31 lakh in total.

Further, reports stated that the online gaming platform also sent out a video message saluting all frontline workers, corporates who have stepped forward to contribute and all the corona warriors. Also, the Director of Baazi Games, Varun Ganjoo, said that the initiative was made to stand true to the brand value of being sensitive towards the surrounding environment. He had also added that along with the O2 initiative, they were able to raise money from the poker community as well as from the Baazi team. 

Reports from Mint stated that PUBG mobile game publisher, PUBG and South Korea-based Krafton Inc donated . 1.5 crore to the PM CARES fund to help fight the pandemic. The CEO of Kraftan Inc, Changhan Kim, also mentioned in a blog post that his company had committed to helping India during the crisis.
