Galen Hall wins WSOP Crazy Eights Event

Another tournament has just wrapped up at the 2018 World Series of Poker, as all the attention is currently on the Main Event. Event #62: $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed has come to an end after an early finish yesterday to allow the final three players to register to the final starting flight of the prestigious Main Event.

The Crazy Eights Event was one of the most anticipated events of the 2018 WSOP, with a small buy-in of just $888, but a massive $888,888 guaranteed to the first-place finisher. It recorded a massive field of 8,598 entries across the four days of starting flights, much higher than the Main Event participation.

It was USA poker player Galen Hall who ended Day 2 of the tournament as chip leader and then went on to lead the final three survivors at the end of Day 3 as well. He beat Latvia’s Eduards Kudrjavcevs in heads-up and walked away with $888,888 in prize money, taking his live poker earnings past the $5 million mark.

This turned out to be his second highest live poker cash, after earning $2.3 million for shipping the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event way back in 2011. Now, his attention will be on the Main Event. The Indian to cash out highest in the $888 Event was Vivek Rughani, finishing 171st for $5,203.

In the final hand, Hall’s pocket nines turned out to be better than his opponent’s J-10, who had a straight draw. Second placed Kudrjavcevs himself crossed the milestone of $1 million in live poker earnings while third placed Herregodts continued his honeymoon in Vegas, after getting married there less than a week back.

Final table results:

  1. Galen Hall – $888,888
  2. Eduards Kudrjavcevs – $476,888
  3. Niels Herregodts – $355,888
  4. Andrey Zaichenko – $266,888
  5. Alexander Kuzmin – $201,888
  6. Jeremiah Miesen – $153,888
  7. Martin Stausholm – $117,888
  8. Philip Tom – $90,888
