Flashback Friday: When Female Players Slayed The Poker Felts

Since we recently celebrated Women’s Day this week, why not go back in time to when the women from the Indian poker fraternity gathered at the cash tables of Deltin Jaqk in Goa. The online poker room hosted an exclusive ladies cash table on 18th February 2022. The event was nothing less than a gala and every single player participated in full gusto.

Our very own Simran Malhotra runs a poker room at Deltin Jaqk along with Praveen Dwarkanath. Malhotra hosted this brilliant night of poker to encourage more female poker players to join the fold. She believed that if women-only tournaments are hosted, why not try having women-only cash games as well. That’s where the idea was conceived. 

Malhotra said, “All of us at Deltin Jaqk are very passionate about empowering women in poker and bringing more women to the game, so we are absolutely thrilled to host this first-of-its-kind cash game here to help pave the way for more women to get involved.” She also expressed her wish to see such games being hosted monthly at the glamorous venue in Goa.

The event welcomed 21 ladies including poker pros, celebrities as well as recreational poker players. The list of attendees included names like Minisha Lamba, Ankita Ajay, Shivani Dargan, Bhavna Bansal, Sunita Jakhar, Pooja Doshi, Sonia Kataria, Rani Chandnani, Kanchan Sharma, Dr. Suman Murthy, Esha Malhotra, Kirti Durgiya, Chaitali Bhardwaj, Reeti Pal, Sohini Battacharya, Preeti Nichani among others.

The ladies did have the night of their lives as they ran pretty deep in the game. The game went on until the morning of 19th February 2022. As we celebrate women this month, this memory is surely an enduring and empowering one. Women have been proving their mettle in every field and poker is no alien. We are eager to see the participation of more women in this game of skill.
