EPT Paris 2025 Cancelled After Regulatory Issues

The new year is around the corner, and it is time for news about the upcoming poker series and tournaments. In this scenario, however, the European Poker Tour’s EPT Paris 2025, which was recently announced, has been cancelled due to regulatory issues. The series was originally set to run from 12th to 23rd February at Palais des Congrès in Paris. At the time of writing this article, it is unclear what exactly the regulatory issues are.

Paris has had a poker scene, but it looks like the future of the game is now facing uncertainty, and the recent cancellation could be part of a broader picture. Poker operators have been active in the city since 2019. However, the risk will be closed by the end of 2024.

Casinos have been banned in Paris since the early 1900s, and gaming circles only operated as associations in the Capital of France. Since 2017, casinos have been active in Paris but under strict regulation. The closure of the casinos in Paris could be the result of the fact that France doesn’t have a functioning government until 2025,  after the French National Assembly was dissolved in June 2023,  and the legislative bill that followed didn’t offer a clear majority.

While EPT Paris 2025 has been cancelled, there are fears that the entire Parisian casino and gaming industry might go underground once and for all. This would basically translate into poker players moving from shady club to shady club to play their favourite game, probably hounded by enthusiastic authorities—never a good scene for the poker industry. We will update you about any other news about EPT Paris 2025.

EPT is one of the oldest names in the poker industry, with its first tournament taking place in 2004 at various locations like London, Barcelona, Prague, Dublin and others.

With a prestigious poker tournament like the European Poker Tour cancelled, questions will surely be asked about the future of poker and casinos elsewhere. However, there’s been good news all over the globe. Poker was recently mandated as a mind sport, and Dubai is gearing up to become one of the poker and casino hotspots, with Wynn Resorts winning the first gaming licence in Dubai.
