EPT Barcelona Main Event shatters attendance record

The PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona stop has always been one of the most popular stops on the EPT schedule over the years. A couple of years ago, the record for the largest EPT Main Event was set at 1,785 entries, but this record was shattered yesterday at the Casino Barcelona, with a total of 1,903 entries registering to the EPT Barcelona Main Event over two days of starting flights.

Of these, 1,305 entries came from Day 1b alone and the late registration period will be kept open for a little while into Day 2 as well, which means that this record will be further broken. Each of these entries paid an entry fee of €5,300 into the Main Event and after a couple of hours on Day 2, the prize pool will be calculated, along with the massive first-place pay-out that is expected.

After ten levels of 60 minutes each on Day 1b, it was Belgium’s Anthony Chimkovitch who was in the chip lead with 390,000 chips, which also made him the overall Day 1 chip leader. Canada’s Ben Wilinofsky bagged the lead from Day 1a, with 330,000 in chips. Chimkovitch is no newbie to the EPT Barcelona Main Event, finishing in 20th place in 2016 and in 114th place last year. This year, he has made a start good enough to better those finishes.

Quite a few Indian players also registered to the Main Event on Day 1b, with PokerStars Team Pro Muskan Sethi being one of them, bagging 51,200 chips to take forward to Day 2. Samay Parikh will also take the same amount of chips to the next day, while Charu Vikram Kaushik (46,600), Abhinav Iyer (44,000) and Kunal Punjwani (32,000) will also keep India’s hopes alive on Day 2.
