EPT Barcelona Main Event: 3 Indians progress from Day 1A


What pops up in your mind when you think of the European Poker Tour (EPT)? The €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event started off at Barcelona Casino maintaining its 15 years long tradition. The event day completed 1A creating a huge impact in the history of Barcelona.

Day 1A of the ME lured as many as 726 participants out of which 259 have survived and secured their place for the upcoming Day 2. Although the participation of 2018 was much higher than 2019 (1,931 entries), there’s one starting flight still to be played and we will require 1,200+ entries to beat last year’s field.

The current chip leader is French player Benjamin Chalot who ended the day with 300,000 chips. Sweden’s Simon Mattsson has held his position tightly in the 10-hour long flight and giving his best to gather 292,000, currently second in chips.

Nonetheless, the Main Event attracted fellow Indian players too namely, Rajat Sharma who claimed 30,500, followed by Kavin Shah with 32,600 and Sahil Chutani with 75,000 which is interesting to note in order to encourage more Indians in the near future to participate in the spectacular event.

Another major stack was put forward by PokerStars ambassador Kalidou Sow (160,000). Others running in the event include Andre Marques with 269,700 followed by Jean-René Fontaine with 217,000 in the top 10 chip stacks.

Day 2 will also witness many known players like Alex Keating (218,800), Govert Metaal (207,500), 2010 EPT Copenhagen Main Event champion Anton Wigg (205,000), Triple Crown champion Davidi Kitai (142,800), Isaac Haxton (74,800), Gaelle Baumann (41,300), Faraz Jaka (25,200), and others.

The Main Event kicked off on August 26 which will continue till September 1. Runners who wish to re-enter and have the opportunity to try their skills on August 27 at noon local time for Day 1B.
