The poker world is abuzz with news about a celebrity who’s been outed as a poker player. All that happened with Elle Fanning revealed that she plays poker with Timothee Chalamet during a media interaction.
The two have starred together in two movies, Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day In New York (2019) and A Complete Unknown (2024), a film based on the life and times of musician Bob Dylan. Chalamet has had a stellar Hollywood career until now, making his debut as a child actor in several commercials since 2014.

He has been part of the cast of movies like Hot Summer Nights (2017), Wonka (2024) and Dune Part 2 (2024). Chalamet has turned producer with the Dylan bio-pic.
With this, Timothee Chalamet and Elle Fanning became the latest Hollywood celebrities and confirmed poker players. The two joined an August list that already boasts some of the biggest names in the industry, including the likes of Ben Affleck, Jennifer Tilly, Kevin Hart, Jason Alexander, and others.
Hollywood has had some outings with the world of poker over the years, and both industries have benefited from these outings. While a Hollywood celebrity at a poker table adds more glamour, the celebrity also stands a chance to meet and greet people outside their business circles, increasing their earnings and professional career potential. In some cases, poker has become financially lucrative for NGOs as well, such as when Jeremy Renner hosted a Celebrity Poker Showdown in Las Vegas in October 2024.
Megastars usually have access to larger bankrolls and have the wherewithal to play some of the most valuable strategies, making their poker outings relatively more exciting and entertaining for themselves and others who play.
Even in Bollywood, actors are no longer shy about professing their love for the sport or promoting it. While Shakti Kapoor’s son and Shraddha Kapoor’s brother, actor Siddhant Kapoor, consistently plays poker, stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, and others are brand ambassadors for various poker brands, including PokerBaazi. Even younger stars like Varun Sharma and Sunny Singh have joined the poker-promoting bandwagon in Bollywood. It remains to be seen when another big name from Bollywood decides to play at a poker tournament – whether domestic or international.
