Devan Tang wins Event #2 of 2019 Triton SHR series

The biggest poker series happening right now is undoubtedly in Jeju, South Korea. The Triton Poker SHR series 2019 began on  2nd March and will go into the books in 9th March 2019. The series already declared its Event #1 Champion in the high-stakes pro Justin Bonomo. The next event in line was the Event #2 – HKD 500k Short Deck Ante-Only Bounty.

The event started on 3rd March and played for 2 days till 4th March, when the champion got declared. Only top 8 players were paid out of the HKD 15.275 million prize pool. Hong Kong’s Devan Tang won the tournament for HKD 9.7 million (~INR 8.74 Crores) as first-place cash prize.

Tang got multiple Aces in his hand in the game and rode that wave to victory. The day started with 69 entries and trimmed to the final 14 on Day 2, which was played yesterday. Gradually, one by one started falling on the Final Table and heads-up was reached, which was an East vs West following Event #1’s suit. The eventual champion Tang was pitted against Canada’s Peter Jetten.

After the game, Tang said, “It was a tough field, for sure. When you’re playing this big and you make the Final Table, you have to play your best for sure.” In the last hand of the game, Tang’s Jc 10c hit the straight and beat Jetten’s As Jdsending him to the rail. Tang brought his live career earnings to over $6 million and now sits at 2nd position in China’s All Time Money List. This is still not Tang’s best score, having made it in the 2016 Triton SHR series for finishing 3rd in an NLHE for $1,405,500.

The first casualty on the FT was Malaysia’s Paul Phua who won HKD 1.3 million for his 8th place finish. Belarusian pro Mikita  Badziakouski fell next at 7th for HKD 1.65 million. A little while later, France’s Romain Arnaud rounded up top 3 for HKD 4.54 million, after holding the overnight lead. Triton also released a short video of Day 2’s happenings:

Final Table Pay-outs –

  1. Devan Tang – HKD 9,730,000 (~$1,239,759)
  2. Peter Jetten – HKD 7,040,000
  3. Romain Arnaud – HKD 4,540,000
  4. Jason Koon – HKD 3,435,000
  5. Isaac Haxton – HKD 2,660,000
  6. Leong Chan Wai – HKD 2,075,000
