Deepak Bothra bags 2 titles in 2 days; ships Head-Hunter

It was just yesterday that Gutshot reported news of Deepak Bothra taking down a Destiny 10.0 title, which is one of the most popular tournaments on Spartan Poker. He had to navigate through a field packed with pros from across the country and he did so successfully, adding INR 5+ Lakh to his bankroll.

Less than 24 hours later, he decided to bag another Spartan featured tournament, winning titles in successive days now. Who said poker is a game of chance? Bothra plays under the name ‘chimpoo’ on Spartan and yesterday, he participated in the Thursday special called Head-Hunter INR 10 Lakh GTD, played in the much-loved knockout format.

Here, the buy-in was set at INR 5,500 and 191 entries registered to the tournament, and the prize pool was eventually shared among the top 17 players with the min-cash at INR 15,700. The tournament began at 8pm last night and it took less than 6 hours to complete, with Bothra being crowned champion at 1:51am this morning.

What’s more impressive is that Bothra is actually in Las Vegas playing in the 2019 World Series of Poker, so we would’ve had to manage his sleep schedule well to have won two consecutive featured tournaments on Spartan Poker. Here, he bagged the top prize of INR 3,03,287 which included INR 2.51 Lakh from the tournament prize pool and the rest from his 9 bounties.

Among those who received pay-checks last night were last week’s Head-Hunter winner Kanishka Samant aka ‘Wildflower’ (15th), last week’s Destiny winner Sahil Mahboobani aka ‘HomelessOnWiFi’ (12th), Sumit Sapra aka ‘holla@yoboy’ (10th), Chandan Arora aka ‘dark fish’ (3rd), and others.

In heads-up, Bothra was pitted against ‘Kingofking’ who ended up having to settle for second place and a prize of INR 1,70,000 plus bounties. In the final hand, Bothra held Kh Td and made a small bet of 24,000 on the 7h Kd 5s chips, which was called by his opponent. He improved to Trips on the Ks turn card but still made a small bet of 60,000 which was called again. Kingofking shoved on the 4d river card and Bothra didn’t think twice before making the call, beating his opponent’s Kings and Sevens.
