Dash Dudley, Santiago Soriano win first titles at WSOP 2019

Event #52: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship

The 50th anniversary of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been a year for first-time winners in Las Vegas so far, with a new winner being declared almost every day. Such was the case for Dash Dudley as well, who beat a field of 518 entries in this PLO special tournament at the Amazon Room, winning a massive top prize along with his maiden WSOP bracelet.

With such a high buy-in attached, there are bound to be big names in the field, but Dudley beat them all, taking slightly over 4 levels on the final day to wrap up proceedings. He beat a Final Table that included players from 5 different countries to win $1,086,967 in prize money.

He credited his mother for the win, saying, “It is kind of a funny story. She used to have a game way back when I was 13, 14 years old. They played dealer’s choice, I watched for quite a bit and finally, I decided to jump in and try it out… and they crushed me. They were playing no-limit seven-stud – it may be the only no-limit seven-stud game in the country.”

Event #53: $800 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack

Another massive field of 3,759 entries registered to this WSOP 2019 event and by the end of it all, it was Spanish pro Santiago Soriano Ramos who managed to keep his composure and go for the win, bagging not just a career-best live score of $371,203 but also his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet.

 

It was a special win as he had to outlast a number of top global pros including past bracelet winners. There was a strong Indian contingent also in this field, which saw Shravan Chhabria making a deep run and eventually busting in 21st place for around $12k in prize money. At the end of Day 2, the eventual winner Soriano also had the chip lead.

“It feels amazing. I started leading with ten left. I ran really good: I never lost an all-in. I felt comfortable, felt confident [and] didn’t see myself as an underdog. It came down to the luck of the all-ins,” he said after he took down the title. It was a diverse Final Table with players from 7 different countries!
