Daniel Jacobsen wins Unibet Malta Main Event

Just a few hours ago, 19-year old Danish poker player Daniel Jacobsen was crowned champion of the 2018 Unibet Open Malta. The event kicked off on May 16 and Jacobsen ended as chip leader at the end of Day 1b, with two days still to be played. Someone else took over as chip leader coming into the final table, but Jacobsen made a recovery to win the title, with that FT chip leader finishing in 7th place.

With a live poker career of hardly over a year, Jacobsen is one of many aspiring pros who have moved to Malta to pursue a professional career in the sport of poker. Surely, he has made a good start, beating a strong field of 273 entries to win the second stop of the 11th season of the Unibet Open.

The €1,100 Main Event took place in Casino Malta at the Intercontinental Hotel and it turned out to be Jacobsen’s first live poker title and career best winnings – €60,090 ($70,465). Beating Finland’s Henri Piironen in heads up, Jacobsen was pretty excited about this win and mentioned that he will be using the money for future tournament buy-ins.

“I feel pretty good. I’m just happy, everything went so smooth. Not just heads-up but the entire tournament pretty much. I got so many coolers going my way and got many good hands that held up. I played decently but it was just meant to be, I think.” When asked about plans of playing in the 2018 WSOP, he said, “Not this year. Nothing is planned. I’m just going to play a lot of cash games online.”
