Cong Lin leads 2019 APPT Korea National FT

The KRW 700k APPT National event was the first marquee event to start in the 2019 APPT Korea series taking place in Incheon. The series began on 5th April 2019 and will go in the books 4 days later on 14th April. The tournament drew a total of 313 players from two starting flights (1B drew 213 entries).

India’s Yasheel Doddanavar was also running in the field, having qualified with an above average chip stack on Day 1B at 10th position, but unfortunately busted on Day 2 of the tournament. The field eventually whittled down to the final 9 players yesterday, who are all from China except one.

Leading the FT at Paradise City Casino is Cong Lin (pictured above) with a stack of 1,789,000. Trailing him at 2nd place is Junheung Siu with 1,673,000 chips. The only non-Chinese player, Japan’s Kentaro Somekawa, though not the lowest in chip counts, will have to work his way to the top with 569k chips.

The day started with 70 players in the field and it only took about 3 hours for the field to reduce to 37, after which the bubble was burst. China’s Chang Yang and fellow countryman Xiang Liu chopped the min-cash, busting on separate tables simultaneously. The min-cash of KRW 1,240,000 was guaranteed to the survivors.

Malaysian pro and Natural8 Team Hot member Michael Soyza, former Asia Player of the Year (POY) Jack Wu and Thailand’s Phachara Wongwichit busted short of the money bubble without a pay-out. Japan’s Yuri Ishida (13th), USA’s Michael Bloch (15th), Brazil’s Patri Tamura (19th), Japan’s Ken Okada (28th), and others finished in the money but out of the FT.

Final Table Chip Counts –

  1. Cong Lin – 1,789,000
  2. Junheng Situ – 1,673,000
