Cary Katz wins Super High Roller Bowl London

Just as the British Poker Open concluded, the SHRB saw a buy-in of £250,000 attracted a small number of 12 poker players at £2,100,000 event to create a prize pool of £3 million. Cary Katz won the inaugural running of this event and inked his name in the history books.

The SHRB began in the year 2015, swinging from one destination to another. SHRB 2018 was held in Las Vegas just before the beginning of the World Series of Poker (WSOP). We also had the inaugural edition in China which was won by Justin Bonomo last year.

Day 1 on the London SHRB concluded quickly as the field was cut down to witness the elimination of few players, including Michael Addamo, Bryn Kenney, Matthias Eibinger and Timothy Adams. The final day saw a small chunk of 7 players battling the competition.

The tournament was decorated with several well-known poker pros like David PetersSam Greenwood, and Mikita BadziakouskiStephen Chidwick was among the largest stacks but eventually lost to Ali Imsirovic with AQ against pocket Tens.

Imsirovic then started heads-up with 1,810,000 chips and Katz with 1,190,000 chips. Katz defeated Imsirovic in this heads-up battle, completing a flush and sending his opponent to the rail for the runner-up prize of £900,000.

Official Results

  1. Cary Katz – £2,100,000
  2. Ali Imsirovic – £900,000

Katz expressed, “This is my biggest score and I was just remarkably lucky.” He added, “I got lucky on the hands that mattered after what seemed to just become a slow demise. I’m not in their league and I would just like to take my hat off to Stevie, Christoph, and Ali. I think they all played so much better than I did, and I think they were all more deserving. I just got very lucky.”

Katz added his name in the list of Super High Roller Bowl champions after last year’s winner, Issac Haxton. He claimed the first-ever SHRB held in London. For more updates on poker news around the world, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com and stay tuned!
