Cary Katz wins $100k Challenge; 25k PLO underway


The 2019 Aussie Millions AUD 100k Challenge just got over in the biggest series of the southern hemisphere. The series already saw two AUD 25k and AUD 50k Challenge declare its champions. Now the last of the Challenge also is in the books with the winner announced yesterday. Another event, the AUD 25k Pot Limit Omaha is also underway and we’ll be rounding up its Day 1 in this article too.

AUD 100k Challenge

Cary Katz, the player who was leading in chips on Day 1, won the AUD 100k Challenge for AUD 1,481,780 (~INR  7.69 Crores) beating a field of 42 entries (33 on Day 1). He also bagged his first ANTON ring in the tournament.

Katz went wire-to-wire throughout Day 2 and overcome the field to bag his title. The tournament saw its third largest crowd after 2014 and 2015’s 76 and 70 entrants respectively. Katz is now an owner of over $18.3 million in live cashes till date. He has overtaken Jonathan DuhamelDominik Nitsche and Tom Marchese to rank 25th in All Time Money List.

Speaking about his win, Katz said, “Feeling pretty amazing. I got remarkably lucky, so I’m very grateful. I think the Aussie Millions is an amazing event and the turnout is going to be even better next year. My guess is that they will add some more high rollers next year, so I think the turnout is going to be huge.

Some of the notables to bust on the final day out of the bubble include last year’s runner-up Manig Loeser (9th), Natural8 Pro Michael SoyzaMichael ZhangThomas MuehloeckerMustapha KanitAndras Nemeth and Dominik Nitsche. Among the top 6 paid places, the first to cash was 2018 GPI Female Player of the Year Kristen Bicknell followed by UK’s Jack Salter. Here are the Top 6 Pay-outs:

AUD 25k PLO

Cary Katz wins $100k Challenge; 25k PLO underway

This tournament began on 3rd Feb and saw a total of 67 entries. At the end of the day, the field whittled down to only 16 players. Hungary’s Andras Nemeth was the chip leader among the 16. 

12 levels were played on the day and Nemeth accumulated 518,500 chips in the end to secure his lead. Trailing him are David Lim with 361k chips and Colombia’s Farid Jattin with 284k chips. The chip leader Nemeth won his biggest had of the day against Jan Collado Fernandez and David Wang with a straight on the river.

Some notables to progress through include 2018 GPI Player of the Year Alex Foxen (206k chips) and Tobias Ziegler (280k chips). Some unfortunate ones to bust on the day include 2018 AUD 100k Challenge runner-up Manig LoeserJason Gray and Kahle Burns. Dominik Nitsche fired another bullet but got busted again.
