Cary Katz leads Aussie Millions $100k Challenge Day 1

After the AUD 25k and AUD 50k Challenges that ended recently in the biggest tournament series in southern hemisphere – 2019 Aussie Millions – the AUD 100k Challenge saw its Day 1 earlier today. The tournament drew 33 entries, being a high-stakes event and over the course of the day, the field whittled down to just 14 players, with late registration still open till approximately 1:10 pm on Day 2.

The player to lead the sized-down field of 14 is Australia’s Cary Katz with 1,108,000 chips. Catz is the only player in the run to have over a million chips. Trailing him is 2018 GPI Player of the Year Alex Foxen with just one 1k chips away from 1 million.

The field is filled with high-stakes grinders and well-known pros like Manig Loeser (3rd), Thomas Muehloecker (7th), Michael Zhang (8th), Mustapha Kanit (10th), Natural8 Pro Michael Sozya (11th), Dominik Nitsche (12th), Andras Nemeth (13th) and Rainer Kempe (14th).

The chip leader though, Katz, is a top-notch player in the world and has over $17 million in live earnings till date. He sits at 18th in US’s All Time Money List. He earned his biggest live cash back in 2016 in the Big One for One Drop, finishing 5th for $1,929,203. Catz has played and has cashes from mostly America, his home country.

Katz is a semi-professional poker player, being a businessman first. The player has accumulated a good enough chip lead and has high chances to win the Challenge. This will be his first cash and title win from Australia if he wins the tournament. Coming to the day’s play, many renowned players like 2018 GPI Female Player of the Year Kristen Bicknell, Loeser, Muehloecker and Kempe had to re-enter after getting busted early. Among the ones to hit the rail include AUD 50k Challenge winner Toby LewisTobias Ziegler and Julien Martini.

Day 2 is set to begin at 12.10 pm on 2nd February. The Aussie Millions Main Event is simultaneously being hosted too but since tomorrow is a day off for the tournament, few high-stakes grinders from the ME like Michael Addamo will probably jump in the AUD 100k Challenge.
