The online poker industry in India is flourishing but on the live front, there are quite a few restrictions, with just Goa and Sikkim allowed to have casinos with live poker rooms. In Goa too, there has been plenty of controversy with regards to shifting out the casinos from their current home in River Mandovi, and the ‘unnecessary’ extensions being given for the same.
However, the new home for these casinos is yet to be decided and in a latest development, we have heard news of another ship entering Goan waters – Big Daddy. While the ship is a brand-new entrant, the management is not so new, having earlier run the Maharajah Casino while the new ship was being prepared.
The poker room will occupy one floor on this new ship and once again, we’re seeing known faces taking over the management here. The India Poker Championship (IPC) Team will be handling the poker room, consisting of Amin Rozani, Peter Abraham, Sameer Rattonsey and Rajeev Kanjani. In May last year, the same team also took over the Big Daddy poker room in the previous ship.
Regardless, the ship has anchored in the Mandovi and we’re just a few days away from the start of operations here. Essel Group’s ‘Big Daddy’ Casino becomes the 16th casino in the state of Goa, with seven being off-shore and nine being land casinos. Team IPC has been known for hosting some of the best live poker tournament series over the years, right from their debut back in 2010.
Now, we could very well be in for a new era of India Poker Championship events. Who knows, we’re probably a few months away from the next edition of the India Poker Championship, a brand which was once upon a time the most popular one in the Indian live poker scene. Since the last live series, IPC has hosted two glamorous awards ceremonies for the best poker players in India, with the last IPC Awards taking place in December 2018.
Those running IPC are the same behind the online poker brand, Spartan Poker, which runs successful events with high guarantees and exciting promotions right through the year. The team ran operations in Maharajah Casino, but with the refurbished and much bigger ship now available, they will definitely look to take it to the next level.
Talking about this latest development, Amin Rozani, Spartan Poker CEO said, “Spartan has been enjoying tremendous success, but live poker is where the IPC journey began for all of us. Big Daddy seems like the ideal platform for us to host poker operations on a larger scale, with fantastic facilities on this new ship. We hope to bring back our flagship IPC live event to this wonderful new venue soon.”
Anubhav Deswal is the man behind operations at the Big Daddy poker room. When we reached out to him, he said, “We are very happy with the all new Big Daddy ship which will help us to take live gaming to a whole new level. Our aim is to provide an extraordinary gaming experience to all those who come aboard, and we shall continuously strive to achieve that here.”
The team would’ve been eagerly awaiting this day and for poker players around the country, you wouldn’t want to miss playing at this latest poker venue in Goa. According to information received by Gutshot, formal operations at the Big Daddy are yet to resume although preparations for the launch are in full swing.
