Brazil Makes Sports Betting And Online Gaming Legal, Grants 60+ Licences

Brazil’s legalization of online and real-money gaming can have great repercussions on the business. Regarding poker and casinos, venues in the Western world and the Asian subcontinent come to mind. Players and fans have long played in and monitored venues like Las Vegas, Hai Phong, some states in India and many others. Another country that now has the potential to become a gaming and casino hub is Brazil.

All About Brazil’s Legal Sports Betting

On 1 January 2025, Brazil launched its fully regulated sports betting and online gaming market,  opening the floodgates for some betting revenue for the country. Brazil has soccer as part of its culture, and with regulated sports betting, there could be an uptick in betting on soccer.

At the time of writing this article, more than 65 entities had signed up for the licences, which gives an idea of how big online gaming and betting could be in Brazil. The country is already one of the top tourist spots in the world, and legalised betting and gaming will definitely boost its tourism.

Several other nitty-gritty issues for players exist, including the common age restriction, tax regulation, and, surprisingly, facial recognition. Brazil could turn out to be one of the most well-planned online gaming venues, with rules and regulations even restricting influencers and celebrities from promoting online betting and gaming. Of course, players must pay major tax amounts. Another surprising—but logical—rule is that players cannot use credit cards and crypto-currencies to bet and play.

The current rules also forbid sign-up bonuses, which are one aspect of an online gaming company’s initial marketing strategy. However, we will only know how this plays out in the future.

With the licences out of the way, Brazil could become the next destination for the biggest live poker tournaments and the biggest market for online poker. A typical poker tournament creates several permanent and temporary job opportunities and boosts the economy in the short and long run. It all depends on whether Brazil’s businesses can capitalize on the impending online gaming and betting boom.

Under the current scenario, some of the most popular poker players could also consider Brazilian companies as clients for brand ambassadorships and other advertising solutions. Overall, Brazil stands to become the absolute centre of the real money gaming and poker industry.
