Bobby Zhang among side winners at APT Finale


The Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2018 Finale is happening right now at Resorts World Manila, Philippines. The festival is a 10-day affair which began on Nov 27 and has plenty of events for all kinds of players.

The side events of the series, which are being conducted daily, are also attracting a pretty decent turn-out. The first Short Deck event of the series saw Gavin Flynn ship it, taking home PHP 222,500.

NLH Single Day

The series also hosted the NLH Single Day event on Dec 1 which attracted 114 entries to the tables, generating PHP 1,658,700 in prize pool. Top 19 players earned a pay-out. Filipino player James Mendoza earned the 1st place at this event, winning PHP 410,600 (~INR 5.51 Lakhs) in cash prize. Mendoza has cashed out in quite a few live tournaments in the past, starting his career in 2012.

The event also saw Baadshah Gaming co-founder and Chief Card Shark Madhav Gupta take part and cash out at 18th place.

High Rollers

The High Rollers drew 58 entries. With the buy-in at PHP 107,500, the prize pool came to PHP 5,626,000. Top 10 players got paid. The last to get his pay and the shipper of the event was the Australian pro Bobby Zhang, after he agreed on a deal with his opponent Ying Lin Chua at heads-up. Zhang took home PHP 1,382,800 (~INR 18.57 Lakhs).

He is not new to earn a pay-out at events, cashing out in 16 events just this year. His recent win was in India, at the Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament in Goa, where he took home $26,113 in cash.

Short Deck High Rollers

The second High Rollers and also the second Short Deck event was won by Kosei Ichinose, a poker pro from Japan. He defeated Seungsu Kong at heads-up. There was an ICM chop at this event too, and Ichinose took PHP 789,200 (~INR 10.6 Lakhs) and Kong PHP 530,000. Ichinose also finished 6th in the Main Event of APT Finale.

The event attracted 16 players, but with buy-in at PHP 107,500, the prize pool reached to PHP 1,552,000. Julian Hasse ranked 3rd for PHP 232,800.

NLH Shot Clock

The event attracted 75 entries and the buy-in was at PHP 22,000, creating a prize pool of PHP 1,455,000. Guam’s Joshua Chargualaf defeated Gordon Wong in heads-up to ship the event and take home PHP 397,000 (~INR 5.33 Lakhs) as 1st place money.
