Bilzerian accuses Dan Cates in Perkins’ High-Stakes Poker cheating tweet

On 24 May, high-stakes player Bill Perkins posted on his Twitter handle that he had knowledge of a major poker scandal that would make Mike Postle’s case look like a church service. Firing off a confusing tweet leaving the poker community on a cliff hanger, Perkins’ message sent shockwaves through the industry. Perkins also mentioned that the incident involved players that “you would call poker heroes.” The poker fanatics across the globe discussed what Perkins was angling at with his tweets.

Throwing some little light on the situation on Sunday, he responded to some tweets leaving out certain key points. Perkins was clearly indicating the alleged incident that occurred online in a private home game where a pro was playing for a “fish account”. He wrote, “Settlement w/ 1 participant gave my word I would not publicly reveal UNLESS they lied during questions.” He further added, “There is an ongoing investigation and the person caught/confessed got a ‘plea deal’ maybe it’s wrong a very bad spot for everyone.”

Immediately after dropping the bombshell, poker industry engaged with his post and Chris George wrote, “You’ve created a ton of speculation and unwarranted attention on other pros with your incomplete posts.”  When asked how it was bigger than Postle, Perkins replied saying in terms of the money involved. Eventually, he said that the situation was not comparable to that of Mike Postle’s.

After facing a lot of criticism, Perkins posted saying, “I’m not going to be his executioner given he cooperated and confessed, though he did claim the culprit was a “top-seven pro.” A few well-known poker pros like Mike McDonald, David Williams, Matt Glantz and Doug Polk also engaged to his tweet.

Cates who is regarded as one of the best poker players in the world responded to Bilzerian’s accusation by saying it was misleading and that he has never played a hand of poker with him. He wrote, “More to come when appropriate but there was rampant ghosted (sic) on the site that people have admitted to.”
