Bhanu Prakash wins IOPC Event #23 on Spartan

We recently reported news of Deepak Bothra aka ‘chimpoo’ shipping another title in the ongoing India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) and going to #2 on the IOPC Leaderboard. He has his eyes on that Jeep Compass for the first place but here’s another person who will give him stiff competition.

Bhanu Prakash aka ‘spectre’ has made a couple of deep runs and after Day 5 of the prestigious IOPC tournament series on The Spartan Poker, he is ranked #3 on the IOPC Leaderboard. Yesterday, he was in the news again, shipping IOPC Event #23 INR 1.75 Lac GTD (770 FO), which kicked off at 4pm IST.

265 entries registered to this freezeout tournament and the new prize pool created was of INR 1,85,500, as the top 39 places were paid out a minimum cash prize of INR 1,280. Bhanu Prakash was awarded the biggest chunk of this prize pool for finishing first – INR 37,193.

Remember, this isn’t the first time Prakash has been in the limelight. He won a Spartan Super Series Main Event last year and also topped the SSS Leaderboard on The Spartan Poker, winning INR 11+ lakh in the Main Event and also INR 5 lakh for topping the SSS leaderboard.

In this particular IOPC tournament, Prakash beat Siddharth Karia aka ‘schemer77’ in heads-up, who had to settle for the second-place prize of INR 24,727. It was Level #42 of the tournament when the final hand was ready to be played, with the blinds running 16,000/32,000 – 4,000 and Prakash holding the chip lead (2,090,339) over Karia (1,222,161 in chips).

Prakash went all-in pre-flop with pocket eights and Karia made the call with A-3. The board opened 2-K-5-2-7 and both players didn’t improvise on their hands, with Prakash ultimately winning the pot and the title with two pairs – Eights and Twos.
