Ben Yu Wins WSOP $50k High Roller

As we approach the end of the 2018 World Series of Poker, a few events were scheduled for the high stakes pros, with big buy-ins and bigger prizes up for grabs. The tournaments for poker’s ‘Elite’ players. One such tournament was Event #77: $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller.

This $50k buy-in event saw a total of 128 entries creating a prize pool of over $6 million and the top 20 players were to be paid out a minimum cash prize of $74,623. After 2 days of grinding, a winner was decided in USA’s Benjamin Yu, and he walked away with the top prize of $1,650,773 – the biggest live cash of his career.

This was Yu’s third career gold bracelet and he took his live winnings past the $5 million mark. Usually known as a mixed games specialist, this was his first bracelet in an NLHE event. It would’ve been a special win as there were many top poker pros at the final table, like Nick PetrangeloIsaac HaxtonManig Loeser and Jake Schindler.

“This is pretty unreal. A couple days ago I was in Day 5 of the Main Event. I just busted, and I wasn’t that bummed compared to a lot of people being bummed out of the Main Event. I did make a final table in the 1K and got fourth place there. I thought that would be my best chance at that bracelet again this summer. I’ve had a really good summer. I’ve run really well, been very fortunate. So, I just thought you know summer is about to be over. Pretty content with it. And this is just like the super special golden cherry on top of everything,” said Yu about this victory.

Final table results:

  1. Ben Yu – $1,650,773
  2. Sean Winter – $1,020,253
  3. Nick Petrangelo – $720,103
  4. Isaac Haxton – $518,882
  5. Igor Kurganov – $381,874
  6. Manig Loeser – $287,174
  7. John Racener – $220,777
  8. Jake Schindler – $173,604
