DPT Grand 2024 ended with a bang, and the winner of the Grand Championship has now been crowned—and that’s Ashwin Vijay Vergiya. Vergiya had a lot of competition and stood tall among a whopping 421 entries. With this, Vergiya carved his name in history by taking the Grand Championship and a coveted DPT bracelet. He did that after a heads-up ICM Chop deal with runner-up Nikhil Gutta. While Ashwin took home ₹34,01,055, Nikhil Gutta took 37,13,653.
The final hand was stiffly fought but lasted only a brief while. Ashwin had 5 ♠ and 5 ❤ , while narrowly missed shipping the championship, as his cards worked out to be A ♦ and 8 ♣board flew out with 7 ♦ 4 ❤ 7 ♠ J ♦ and 10 ♠. An Ace or an 8 would have changed it all. However, Ashwin won the tournament with pocket 5s.
