UPDATE: Lawrence Xavier also progressed from this flight, with 238,000 chips.
Sponsored by 888poker, this happens to be one of the most popular tournaments on the World Series of Poker (WSOP) schedule each year. Called the ‘Crazy Eights’ tournament, Galen Hall was the bracelet winner here in WSOP 2018, while the tournament is also a very popular one among Indians, with a sub-$1,000 buy-in.
8,500+ entries registered to the tournament last year and 6 Indians cashed including Vivek Rughani, Abhishek Rathod, Shashank Jain, Abhinav Iyer, Nikita Luther and Paawan Bansal. Rughani was the highest ranked Indian (171st) last year and we hope for a better run by our players this year at Event #64: $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold’em.
The tournament has 4 starting flights and the action began today with Day 1A and 1B, the former registering 1,674 total entries but unfortunately, no Indians were a part of the 191 players who progressed to Day 2. PokerStars Pro Muskan Sethi busted just before the bubble on the opening flight and she posted on Twitter that she will be back tomorrow to try again on Day 1C. Arsenii Karmatckii topped the Day 1A survivors list.

Day 1B began slightly later and this turned out to be a better flight for Team India. This second starting flight attracted a total playing field of 1,191 entries and play went on till the early hours of Saturday morning in Las Vegas. By the end of the flight, a total of 138 survivors bagged and tagged to return on Day 2, including two Indian pros.
Leading the Indian charge is Ashish Ahuja, who eventually progressed with 351,000 chips. Along with him is Kartik Ved who takes a stack of 190,000 chips forward. Ved has already registered 6 cashes in WSOP 2019 with a best of $34,279 while Ahuja has 7 cashes in the series with a best of $48,914.
Female player and Adda52 Pro Nikita Luther and Paawan Bansal were also in the field early out but they busted in the latter half of the day and they might give it another try in one of the remaining two flights. Remember, Luther recently bagged a massive score of $109k for finishing second in the WPT500 Las Vegas Main Event.
