Ashish Ahuja is this week’s Spartan DareDevil winner

One of the popular weekend tournaments among Indian online poker sites is the DareDevil, which takes place every Saturday night at The Spartan Poker. Featuring an INR 6 Lakhs guaranteed prizepool, players need to pony up INR 4,400 in order to buy into this event. As with many tournaments online, the DareDevil is an re-entry tourney however busted players can get back in at 50% of the original buy-in amount giving it an interesting spin. Last night’s DareDevil had a familiar face taking down the title in Ashish Ahuja who plays at Spartan as ‘Spewushhhiiiii’.

Kicking off at 7:30pm, the DareDevil is a weekly tournament which is part of Spartan’s line-up of daily featured tournaments. Yesterday’s edition of the DareDevil saw 87 players participate for a chance to win the big prizes. The prizepool went past the guarantee amount to settle at INR 6,32,000 which would eventually be shared among the top 10 finishers in the event. Minimum cash to these ten was INR 15,800. Many familiar names among the money finishers including the first of them in Srihari Bang a.k.a ‘bangbang99’ who has been in a good run of form recently having scored wins in the Mega Stack and the Elite at Spartan in the same week just last month! The player who finished above him in 9th place was Siddarth ‘PeterPunter’ Singhvi, another reg who has scored plenty of top finishes online at Spartan and other websites. Singhvi, in fact, is a former title winner of this very DareDevil tournament from back in June. However both these accomplished players fell short of making the final table in this one.

Action at the final table went into three-way when Spewushhhiiiii (527k chips) took out the short stack ‘7vik’ in a pre-flop all-in. The latter was actually leading with Ace King against the Ace Queen of Spewushhhiiiii. The poker gods had different plans though as a flopped full house on a board of As Qd Ah 5c Jc helped Spewushhhiiiii eliminate 7vik in 4th place for a payday of INR 60,040. That left ‘Supee’, former Spartan Super Series title winner ‘bubble’ and of course Spewushhhiiiii to battle it out for the top prize. 3-way action went on for quite a while with chips and pots being traded back and forth between these three. bubble gained some traction by taking a big pot from Spewushhhiiiii but went back to being the short stack when he lost a similar big pot to the same player.

Eventually the three players decided to make a deal and Spewushhhiiiii’s stack of 652,460 had a slender lead over Supee (651,578) while bubble had 413k. And that is the order in which they finished the tournament with Spewushhhiiiii taking the title and top prize of INR 1,34,141 while Supee and bubble made scores of INR 1,32,688 and INR 1,21,217 respectively.
