APT Vietnam: Carrier wins Monster Stack; 6 Indians progress in ME


The Pro Poker Club in Vietnam is hosting the Asian Poker Tour (APT) brimming with Indian participants. The Monster Stack event halted yesterday crowning the opening champion of the series, the Frenchman Stephane Carrier outlasting a field of 116 to win his first-ever live cash.

The entire tournament created a prize pool of VND 1.12 billion, and by the end of Day 1, only 30 progressed with the money being shared among the top 20 players, receiving a minimum amount of VND 14 million.

Three Indians resumed to battle it out, namely Sajal GuptaAshish Munot and Rubin Labroo. The Indian representatives fought neck-to-neck but the day was unfavourable towards Labroo, the bubble boy of the tournament, ending his journey in 21st place. While Munot was in money, resting in 16th place with VND 16.86 million (~INR 51,640). However, it was Hong Kong’s Ma Chun Yu railing Gupta in the 8th place, managing to cash VND 34.96 million (~INR 1.07 Lakhs) after finding his seat on the final table.

As the event progressed with the final 3 on the hot seat, Yu pushed Day 1 chip leader He Xiaoyin in 3rd place. The former entered with 1.9 million in chips playing against Carrier with 1.6 million chips. In the final hand of the tournament, Carrier with 5:1 in the chip lead, Yu holding Ac 2h and Carrier with Ah Qh. The board ran Jd 3d 5h As 10c, and that’s when the champion of the night emerged showing his pair of Aces with Queen kicker and walking away with VND 279,670,000 prize money!

  3. He Xiaoyin – 129,620,000

VND 22,000,000 Main Event

Marking an end to the warm-up event, it was now time for the Main Event to capture attention. The most awaited tournament of the series comes in with a guarantee of VND 8 billion. Day 1A went for 9 long hours, registering a total of 50 entries, each player chipping in VND 22,000,000 buy-in. Topping this field and making six-digit was Australia’s Nguyen Duc Bien carrying the largest stack of 125,000.

By the end of Day 1A, only 21 players progressed. Undoubtedly, Vietnam has been a favourite destination for the Indian poker pros, flying to make the most of the opportunity. The field saw 6 Indians fighting their way to advance to Day 2 including

  • Yasheel Dodddanavar – 85,000 (5th)
  • Vivek Rughani – 79,400 (6th)
  • Meherzad Munsaf – 72,900 (7th)
  • Sahil Chutani – 46,700 (11th)
  • Laksh Pal Singh – 44,900 (13th)
  • Maria Kirloskar – 32,300 (18th)

Running to grab his career first live win, Bien was recorded to finish 5th in the 2018 APT Kickoff Vietnam Monster Stack, Ho Chi Minh. The chip leader is closely followed by Vincent Chauve bagging 121,000 chips and Nguyen Quy Bang with 113,700 chips in the third place.
