APT Philippines: Doddanavar progresses in Championships Event

Indian poker player Yasheel Doddanavar has really been enjoying himself on the poker tables in the last couple of months. While he hasn’t been a serious online grinder, the player has been travelling to Asian destinations in recent weeks and has been doing decently as well. It was just a couple of days back that we reported his 15th place finish in the APT Philippines Main Event.

Now, he has decided he wants to do well in the second main feature of this APT Philippines series – PHP 10 Million GTD Championships Event. 96 runners turned up for Day 1A of the tournament and Doddanavar was among the top three stacks when players bagged their chips at the end of the day.

After 8 scheduled levels of play, Korea’s Kong Seung Su chipped up to hold the largest stack of 295,100 chips, leading 49 survivors into Day 2. Singapore’s Graeme Siow is a little behind him with a stack of 247,800 while Doddanavar rounds up the top three with 200,000 in chips.

Quite a few known Asian pros are also in contention including 5 APT title holders Mike Takayama (193,800), Christopher Mateo (187,700), Cao Ngoc Anh (128,400), Gyeong Byeong Lee (80,600), and Kannapong Thanarattrakul (36,600), with Mateo winning the Main Event here itself just a couple of days back.

The buy-in to the Championships Event is PHP 82,500 and Day 1B resumes today at 1pm local time with registration open until the start of Level 10 on Day 2. Doddanavar will be looking to go one step further than his run in the Main Event, and finish on the FT or better in this tournament.

Top chip counts on Day 1A:

  1. Kong Seong Su – 295,100
  2. Grame Siow – 247,800
  3. Yasheel Doddanavar – 200,000
  4. Mike Takayama – 193,800
