APT ME Day 2 sees 6 Indians progress; Duy Ho leads

Asian Poker Tour (APT)’s first stop for 2019 is in Vietnam and is currently hosting the 2019 APT Vietnam Kickoff series at Pro Poker Club, Ho Chi Minh City. The series already has seen a few events wrap up and a lot of Indian pros and poker enthusiasts have turned up in Vietnam for this event, as expected.

APT Kickoff ME Day 2

Yesterday, the Day 2 of APT Main Event went into the books. The total count for Main Event came to 576 entries, 42 from 1A, 63 from 1B, 301 from 1C and 18 more from Day 2 till late registration. Out of the 250 players who returned to Day 2 from three starting flights, only 77 progressed to Day 3, including 6 Indians.

The buy-in of the Main Event was fixed at VND 22 million (~INR 67,153) and the advertised guarantee took a tumble as the fresh prize pool of VND 11,174,400,000 was created. Top 58 places will be paid in the Main Event and the bubble will probably reach quickly in Day 3.

Six Indians are also running in the mix. Abhinav Iyer (17th) is the leader in chip counts among Indians with 272,500 chips entering Day 3. Others successively include Vinod Megalmani (48th), Eka Vedantham (50th), Dhaval Mudgal (62nd), Jason Pereira (70th) and Meherzad Munsaf (75th).

Among the above, Mudgal and Munsaf have already cashed in the Dafabet sponsored Head Hunter in the APT Kickoff. Vedantham is playing his first live event outside India in the Kickoff and is aiming right at the 1st place prize. Pereira entered the event on Day 1C and progressed to Day 2 with 61,000 chips. Megalmani is the previous Spartan Millionaire winner. He entered Day 2 with 123,000 chips, 2nd among Indians.

Other Indians to enter the Main Event but got busted on Day 2 include Manish LakhotiaAditya SushantNJ NiranjanRomit AdvaniAkshay NasaAkash MalikNishant SharmaRavi PriyaSiddharth JainMadhav GuptaKunal PatniGuneet Kwatra and Siddharth Kapoor.

The chip leader among the 77 qualifiers was USA’s Duy Ho (pictured above) with 565,500 chips. The leader has over $6.4 million in live recorded cashes till now and is not an unknown player. He hails from Honolulu in Hawaii. His biggest live cash of $185,378 came from finishing 5th back in 2012 WSOP $1,500 NLH event. He has played all over the globe in poker hotspots like Macau, Vietnam, Las Vegas and Australia. APT Kickoff Main Event will add a huge amount to his already decent bankroll if he ships it.

NLH Single-Day #3

Another side event along with the Main Event also saw its champion declared yesterday, the NLH Single-Day. The event saw 169 total entries and created a prize pool of VND 983,580,000. Top 29 players earned a pay-check and among them China’s Jinlong Hu was the one to ship the event for VND 165,150,000 (~INR 5.04 Lakhs) after a 3-way deal between him, Vietnam’s Huynh Van Tan and Hong Kong’s Cho Yi Pang. The tournament went on till 1 am today morning. The champion, Hu, is a relatively new entrant in the scene, but has cashes from last month’s Jeju Red Dragon Main Event for finishing 29th.

Among the notables to fall on Day 2 were Quang NguyenDay 1B’s chip leaderTetsuya Tsuchikawa, and APT Kickoff Monster Stack 1 winner Michael Kim Falcon. The Main Event will begin its Day 3 today at 1pm local time and will go on till Final 8 is reached.
