Apoorva Goel, Santhosh Suvarna Cash in EPT Cyprus High Roller

The Indian players are having a good time at EPT Cyprus 2024 and are seeing money while bowing out in some of the most tersely-fought poker hands on the planet. Indians Apoorva Goel and Santhosh Suvarna bowed out of the $10,300 EPT High Roller Event at 23rd and 43rd rank, respectively. Apoorva Goel took home the prize money of $35,200, and Santhosh Suvarna took home $20,100. The event winner was Ryan Mandara of the UK, who took home the prize money of $709,285.

Suvarna has had a wonderful time at EPT Cyprus, having seen money a couple of times before this. Earlier, Suvarna was in the race for the $53,00 EPT Main Event, bowing out on the third day and still adding $31,940 to his name. With Ankit Ahuja of India shipping that event and winning the EPT Eureka Main Event at Cyprus 2023, taking home $362,365 (~₹3,01,45,325), there was a hope that an Indian would perform that feat this time around, too, but that didn’t happen. Suvarna has made Indians proud with his poker skills several times before, though, with his highest cash being $5,415,152 in 2024 at the SHR Bracelet Event #55 at WSOP 2024 in Las Vegas.

Apoorva Goel, too, is having some interesting times at the EPT Cyprus. He recently took off from the EPT Cyprus 2024 Mystery Bounty table, taking a cash prize of $7,860 + mystery bounties. That one was a hard-fought battle; with more than 800+ entries, only about 15 made it to the final day. Goel’s habit of participating in High Roller events – he did so at EPT 2024 and 2023, looks like the Indian player likes the high stakes – and it pays out, too. In 2023, he finished 40th at the High Roller event, taking home €18,800. In 2024, he ranked 63rd and earned €17,950. Here’s wishing Goel many more entries in High Roller events and some more fantastic wins. His best cash to date is $149,890 at Red Dragon Event #13 at Macau Poker Cup, in 2017.

These wins mean a lot for the Indian poker player fraternity; each big win by an Indian at the felts means that the new and upcoming poker players gain confidence that they can even win on the big stage. Santhosh Suvarna, the two-time WSOP bracelet winner, is definitely an inspiration for an entire generation of new poker players with his formidable runs and wins.
