APL Vietnam ME Day 1D: Sahil Agarwal, Sumit Sapra progress

The Asia Poker League (APL) has an ongoing live poker tournament series taking place at Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. After a disappointing turnout in the first couple of starting flights of the Main Event, we saw a strong field of 200 entries on Day 1C and Matthew Mortensen bagging a gigantic chip lead.

Another 200 entries were needed in the final flight of the VND 16.5 Million buy-in Main Event and the organizers wouldn’t have been disappointed with the biggest field of 289 entries (209 players + 80 re-entries) turning out to play on Day 1D. Add it to the 334 entries from the first three flights and you get a combined field of 623 entries in the APL Vietnam Main Event.

In the final flight which took place yesterday, 75 players managed to get a bag at the close of play after 14 levels, and among them were Indian pros Sahil Agarwal and Sumit Sapra. Both are highly accomplished and seasoned poker players and the former finished the flight with the third largest stack of 298k while the latter finished with a below-average stack of 68k.

In the chip lead at the end of the qualifying day was Vietnam’s very own Chu Thai Thinh who finished with 378k chips, making him second in the overall chip lead after Mortensen. A total of 150 survivors will continue Day 2 today at the Pro Poker Club and we have a total of 3 Indians in play, with Abhinav Iyer and Sumit Sapra below the average stack of 124,600. As for Agarwal, he moves into Day 2 in the top 5 biggest stacks.
