Another Summit for Sumit Sapra at PokerBaazi!

It was back in late August that Sumit Sapra tasted success winning the Summit. We don’t know if he feels some kind of kinship with the name of this tournament but last night, almost exactly two months to the date, Sapra has scored yet another win at the Summit which takes place every Thursday night at PokerBaazi.com.

One of the must-grind weekday events on many an Indian poker player’s schedule, the Summit features a buy-in of just over INR 8,000 and offers a pretty sweet guaranteed prizepool of 10 Lakhs. Last night’s tournament saw plenty of participation from players across the country. By the time, action rolled around to the final, there were still plenty of familiar faces for Sapra to contend with on his way to the title, “Yeah it was a tough final table”, acknowledged Sapra when Gutshot spoke to him a earlier today.

For anyone who still is under the mistaken notion that poker is a game of luck and not skill will only need to see the names making the final table to realise that luck has nothing to do with good players making deep money finishes on a consistent basis.

Aside from Sapra at that Summit final table, was Rubin ‘kornkid’ Labroo (8th for INR 35,831) who has won a string of featured tournaments on PokerBaazi such as the BSS SuperStack, the Endeavour and the Vegas in the past couple of months. His latest at victory at Baazi came just about 2 weeks ago when he took down the BSS Megastack. Another pro who has been doing well and left his mark at this tournament was Goonjan Mall who plays as ‘gmtesting’. Mall may have finished in 6th place (INR 60,637) here but he too has been in great form winning titles and running deep in tournaments including his latest, a runner-up finish in last week’s Mega Freeze at The Spartan Poker. Playing as ‘griezmann’ and making yet another deep score was Abhinav Iyer who won the BSS SuperStack this past Monday and took down two titles in PokerBaazi’s Premier Poker League (PPL) in the week prior.

Sapra’s final opponent standing between him and the title was no slouch either. Akshay Nasa has been in some tremendous form across all the top Indian poker sites having claimed the top spot in the afore-mentioned PPL’s Autumn Leaderboard, finishing in the top 5 at Spartan’s Five for Five as well as winning scores in Adda52’s Ace Race and Maverick. So it is even more impressive then that Sapra triumphed over this reg-infested final table and Nasa, who was the big stack at that FT, to take down the Summit for a first place prize of INR 2,70,112. Akshay Nasa took home INR 2,03,962 for his runner-up finish.

The winner was aware that he had a fair task ahead of him at that FT, “Wasn’t going to be easy with the likes of Abhinav Iyer and Akshay Nasa and Nasa had most of the chips in play. The aim was to get to HU first and once I did that then we just ran pretty good in HU,” said Sapra as he adds one more notch on that tourney win belt.
