Ankit Ahuja Led The Indian Trail At Event #17 Of WSOP

The Indian poker players are in full force at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2025, and are consistently seeing money at the most valuable events and tournaments in poker.

As Event #17, an NLH game, Ankit Ahuja, Ashish Anilkumar and Somashekar Sanampuri have seen considerable amounts and bowed out at various ranks.

The top of the list is Ankit Ahuja, who bowed out at 73rd rank, taking home $6,215 (~₹5.3 Lakh), while Ashish Anilkumar took $4,420 (~₹3.7 Lakh) at 118th place, and Somashekar Sanampuri, at rank #233, took home $4,011 (₹3.3 Lakh).

This is another formidable addition to Ahuja’s poker career. He already ranks #3 among Indian poker players and has amassed almost $3 million during his lifetime. Interestingly, Ahuja has consistently played in the WSOP and has seen more than 40 cashes at various WSOP tournaments.

For Somasekhar and Ashish, these cash-outs will not only add to their wallets but also further elevate their standing in the poker community, both nationally and globally.

The current iteration of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) will continue until 16th July. The series has grabbed headlines already, thanks to various aspects, including being the first live WSOP poker event after the brand’s takeover by GGPoker.

The 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is shaping up to be a milestone year for the game, blending historic achievements with a major shift in ownership. In a landmark development, GGPoker’s parent company, NSUS Group, acquired the WSOP brand from Caesars Entertainment for a staggering $500 million.

The deal allows Caesars to continue hosting the iconic Las Vegas series for the next two decades, even as GGPoker takes over the global WSOP brand and its digital expansion.

This year’s WSOP has already set new benchmarks with the highest number of bracelet events in series history, highlighting the scale and ambition of the new ownership.

Another notable moment came with poker legend Phil Hellmuth’s decision to skip the Main Event for the first time since 1988, citing the gruelling schedule as a factor. With GGPoker now steering the brand, the WSOP is poised for further global growth, integrating cutting-edge technology and player-friendly innovations to elevate the tournament experience for players around the world.
