The India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) this time witnessed some of the most anticipated series of the year. The final day of the series was in the books yesterday. The biggest event of the all was the Main Event INR 1.5 Crores GTD and saw Ashish Munot bag the title and INR 37,50,000 in prize money, making it the biggest 1st place cash prize ever awarded in an Indian online tournament.
Along with that, the feature tournament of Sunday – Big Daddy – was won by another known grinder Nadeem Basha for a hefty sum. The day featured 5 other side-events which are as follows.
The first tournament to start the day was an INR 2.25 Lakhs NLHE and this too, broke the guarantee by an extra INR 59k, attracting 287 entries. The tournament paid top 36 places for a min-cash of INR 1,846.
The tournament was won by Anirban Das aka ‘pokernoob’ who shipped it for INR 56,800 and made his 2nd title win in this edition’s IOPC. Das would complete a hat-trick yesterday by winning another event, as you’ll see below.
This tournament saw Das against another one of the players who won twice in this IOPC – ‘ludutojezu’ (IOPC #26 and IOPC #43) – as heads-up opponent. The final hand saw Das with over 4:1 chip lead. With this lead, it was logical for his opponent to shove pre-flop with 5d Ac. Das called with pocket Threes. Board ran 2s 5c 3h Qh 3d. While ludutojezu made two pairs, Das won with an awesome Quads hand and shipped the tourney.
The next in line for Day 10 was INR 4 lakhs NLHE and attracted 309 entries, making INR 4,49,600 in prize pool by surpassing the guarantee. Top 45 places were paid for a min-cash of INR 2,473. ‘nolan’ beat Rubin Labroo aka ‘kornkid’ to ship the tournament and bag the 1st place cash prize of INR 85,424.
Chip counts in the final hand were pretty even. Labroo went all-in pre-flop with KQ-suited and received a call from the eventual champion, who was packing pocket Kings. The board came to 3s 3h 6h 3d 2d and made full house for nolan and left Labroo with just a set, who had to settle for INR 61,820 as runner-up cash prize.
The event drew 241 entries and crossed the guarantee by an INR 51.2k margin. Top 30 places were paid for a min-cash of INR 2,634. Anirban Das bagged this event and completed his hat-trick in this edition’s IOPC. Das is the only person in this edition who won three titles. He won INR 73,752 as 1st place cash prize and knocked out IOPC #8 winner ‘Iamachampion’ in heads-up, who had to settle for runner-up cash prize of INR 51,626.
The final hand had Das in overwhelming chip lead. Iamachampion shoved pre-flop with Ac 6s and Das called with Ah Kd, decent cards. The board came to 7s Qd 9h 7d 3h and showed a pair of Sevens to both, but Das won the hand with a higher kicker and shipped his third IOPC tournament.
We spoke Das about his achievement and he had this to say, “It was great to ship not one but two events on a Sunday and get back to winning ways. I shipped 3 events this IOPC but unfortunately had to skip games on three days so couldn’t chase the IOPC Leaderboard with full effort. Look forward to the next series and congratulations to Akshay Nasa on the IOPC Leaderboard win and Ashish Munot for Main Event.”
This was the second biggest tournament on IOPC’s final day after the Main Event. The tournament, for a buy-in of INR 5.5k, attracted a field of 788 entries (including 131 re-entries). The eventual prize pool came to INR 3,9,40,000, crushing the guarantee by a huge margin of INR 9.4 Lakhs!
The winner to ship the tournament was ‘bigphish’, bagging INR 9,85,000 as 1st place cash prize. He won his second IOPC event with this, having already bagged the IOPC #29. He beat ‘Wynn’ in heads-up to bag the title.
The final hand saw him with over 2:1 chip lead. bigphish went all-in pre-flop with Twos and got a call. The board came to 4h 3c Td 6s 8h and returned nothing for both players, Wynn having 9d Ks, and bigphish eventually won the second biggest tournament of the day with his pocket Twos.
We talked to bigphish after his win and he said, “IOPC was very exciting. I’m looking forward to Spartan’s next series.” Surely this win will prove to be a good addition to his bankroll and enable him to play and hopefully ship more upcoming tournaments.
There were a lot of regs in the mix as it was a high stakes event. Some of them to rank in the top 70 paid places were Aniket Waghmare (6th), IOPC ME winner Ashish Munot (7th), Ashish Ahuja (8th), Mayank Jaggi (12th), Amit Ajwani (13th), Guneet Kwatra (16th), Nadeem Basha (24th), Siddarth Singhvi (30th), Siddharth Karia (36th), Shardul Parthasarathi (43rd), Akshay Nasa (46th), Shravan Chhabria (53rd), Arjanveer Chadha (54th), Goonjan Mall (60th), Sahil Agarwal (61st) and 2019 APT Vietnam Kickoff ME winner Abhinav Iyer (66th).
The last tournament of the day was the third biggest event of the day, which had a buy-in of INR 4,400. The tournament attracted a total of 395 entries (including 35 re-entries). The prize pool came to INR 15,80,000 crushing the guarantee by a significant margin.
The player to emerge victorious in the event was ‘gareeeeb’ who took home INR 3,34,170 as the 1st place cash prize. He beat ‘AAKKs’ in heads-up to bag the title. The runner-up had to settle for INR 2,24,992, a cool amount in itself.
The final hand had ‘gareeeeb’ with a little less than 1.5:1 chip lead. ‘gareeeeb’ raised pre-flop with 140,000, having pocket Eights and received a call. The flop came to 7s 9h 6c. ‘gareeeeb’ was looking at an outer-straight draw but played it cool and checked at first, but ‘AAKKs’ bet 385,000, making top pair on the flop and saw ‘gareeeeb’ shove. His opponent called the shove and the turn of 5s completed the straight for ‘gareeeeb’ and gave nothing to his opponent. ‘gareeeeb’ swept the table clean and bagged the title.
We got in touch with ‘gareeeeb’ after his victory. He talked a lot about his overall run in IOPC. “I was keenly looking to shipping an IOPC event after having missed closely after reaching Final Table on 5-6 other occasions. So this win was very satisfying and also because of the other regulars present – Kartik Ved, Lone Believer and GTOsucks. I was in chip lead right from the start till the end so that gave lot of confidence. This also helped me climb to 3rd in the Leaderboard. Though I narrowly missed out on the car by around 50 points but I’m happy overall with the results.“
Some of the knowns to rank in the money include Kartik Ved (6th), Ratul Steves (12th), Anirban Das (16th), IOPC #36 SHR runner-up Pulkit Goyal (19th), Rajesh Shukla (22nd), Goonjan Mall (29th) and Abhinav Iyer (30th).
