Amanpreet Singh bags a title at APT Finale

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) is one of the prestigious Asia-Pacific brands in poker, touring all over the region. Their last stop for this year is at the Resorts World Manila, Philippines, where the 2018 APT Finale is being held as we speak. The action started on Nov 27 and will go on for a period of 10 days, concluding on Dec 6.

A host of events are lined up for the festival, and some side-events are also organized to keep players of all bankrolls happy. Yesterday saw the festival’s NLH Single Day (Shot Clock) Event come to an end, with the Indian player Amanpreet Singh shipping it and winning a total of PHP 273,300 (~INR 3.63 Lakhs) for first place. He slashed a field of 66 entries to get to the trophy. This is his first ever APT Trophy.

The event was first in the festival to feature a shot clock, making the adrenaline rush doubly faster than before with the blinds that were escalating every 20 minutes. Graham Cowan burst the bubble after he schooled Aso Seitaro with his one card flush over Seitaro’s pocket Jacks. 2018 APT Philippines Championship Event winner Lim Yowhan also cashed out at 5th place.

The gameplay thereafter wasn’t time consuming, and the heads-up was reached fast after a few quick eliminations. The two-man race to the trophy saw the Malaysia’s Ming Ken Thoo against Singh. Thoo was leading in chips going into heads-up but Singh doubled-up in a hand with AK over QJ. Thoo got back his chip lead when he doubled-up with trips over Q8. The final hand of the event saw Singh with 10c9c running straight over a Qd 2s Kc Jc 7d board against Thoo’s pocket Nines.

Singh previously took part in the APL Road Series Vol. 3 Main Event held in the capital city of Ho Chi Minh City a week ago. Prior to that he made a deep run at the APT Vietnam Monster Stack finishing 6th for VND 81,160,000. This APT win must be something of a redemption moment for him.

Yesterday also saw the second starting flight of the Main Event of the APT Finale of PHP 10 million (~INR 1.33 Crores) GTD. Aditya Sushant had qualified in the first starting flight and will be looking to ace in Day 2 commencing today at 1pm local time.
