Alok Birewar leads 74 after Day 1A of IPC Main Event

16 levels of play were to be played in the opening flights of the Main Event of the India Poker Championship (IPC). The tournament series began a couple of nights back at the Big Daddy Casino and yesterday was a busy day with the IPC 50k Main Event kicking off as well as the 100k Highroller coming to an end, with Anmol Srivats emerging champion.

360 entries registered on Day 1A of the IPC 50k Main Event and from them, only 74 managed to bag a stack to Day 2. Leading the charge was none other than Alok Birewar who has been at the IPC since the first day of the series but this has been his best run so far, progressing with a massive stack of 460,000 chips.

Birewar is no newbie to live tournaments, having won the 25k Big Bounty at WPT India 2018 and also the 65k DPT Highroller in Feb 2018. Close behind him is Goonjan Mall who has a stack of 375,000 chips, having also made a deep run in the 100k Highroller, finishing 10th. Akanksha Singh bagged 366,000 chips and she rounds up the top three stacks of the night.

Other notables who managed to carry a stack to Day 2 include BPT Main Event winner Gautam Sachdeva (329k), Anish Patra (277k), Sahil Mahboobani (275k), Jayjit Ray (259k), Chirag Sodha (254k), Jasven Saigal (215k), Siddarth Singhvi (190k), Kanchan Sharma (142k), Siddharth Mundada (131k), Deepak Bothra (130k), Samay Parikh (129k), Anita Hassanandani (120k), bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer (119k), Ashish Ahuja (103k), Ankit Wadhawan (76k) and others.

In the last edition of the IPC Main Event, a total of 777 entries registered with a buy-in of 35k. We might not reach that number in terms of attendance but in terms of prize pool, the INR 3.25 Crore guarantee is all set to be broken. Defending champion Raj Talwar is also in the mix, going through with a below-average stack of 73,000!

At the start of the day, we spoke to Vaibhav Temani who made it to his first ever live tournament. After having played online for years, he won a satty and played Day 1A of the 50k Main Event, only to progress with a stack of 125,000 chips. See what he had to say prior to the tournament:
