The Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) is being held at the Holland Casino for a period of 11-days starting from Nov 21. Yesterday was the penultimate day of the series and the final day of the Main Event. MCOP is one of the longest running tournament series. This was MCOP’s 27th consecutive year at the Holland Casino, Amsterdam.
The Main Event of the series began on Nov 23 and got over yesterday with the champion taking the trophy and the first-place cash prize. The Final Table of 9 players played some action-packed poker yesterday. The Main Event had a buy-in of EUR 4,300 and attracted a total playing field of 293 entries, including 27 new entries on Day 2. The top 44 players will be paid out.
Netherlands’ beloved Alberto Stegeman was crowned as the champion of the Main Event, taking home a wholesome EUR 240,183 (~INR 1.89 Crores) for first place cash money. This makes Stegeman’s biggest live win yet, by a huge margin, his second biggest being the EUR 15,700 for finishing 68th at 2018 WSOP Rozadov.
Stegeman is somewhat of a celebrity in his home country. He is an award-winning journalist and has his own TV-show. He has played in some major tournaments in the past all over the world and is not exactly new to poker. With this phenomenal win, he might even look to play poker full time, not a bad choice at all if he takes the leap.
Kilian Kramer, who was second in chip lead in the Final Table, finished 2nd in the end, taking home EUR 160,432 in cash. The chip leader on the Final Table, Teun Mulder rounded up the top 3, cashing out EUR 111,418. Tough luck for Mulder, who showed extraordinary skills throughout the Main Event.
The Final Table was two hands in when the first bust happened. Pascal Baumgartner lost to Kilian Kramer with the latter’s Ace-high flush beating Queen pair. David Algarra, Danilo Velasevic, Jasper Meijer van Putten followed Baumgartner.
The final hand in heads-up saw Stegeman make the 400,000 bet from the button. Kramer’s call followed. With 900,000 in the pot, the flop came to Jd 9d 10s. Kramer checked. Stegeman bet a massive amount of 1,250,000. Kramer took some time before going all-in. Stegeman called instantly, without wasting any more time to get to the trophy. Stegeman’s pocket Nines were enough to beat Kramer’s pocket Aces. The river and turn came to Qd Qs and Stegeman hit the full house.
The prestigious festival will end today, with a bunch of exciting events being scheduled for the day.
