Adam Rude Fights Back After Health Scare at WSOP 2024 ME

Adam Rude’s quest for poker glory at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event took a dramatic turn. Just hours after bagging chips on Day 4, a health scare landed him in the hospital. Despite concerns from doctors and some fellow players, Rude returned determined to fight for the life-changing $10 Million first-place prize. “There were some mixed reactions at the table,” Rude admitted during the Day 5 break. “One player was pretty vocal that I shouldn’t be playing. But listen, I have two young sons, and that’s the only reason I’m here – to give them a shot at that $10 Million.”

Rude’s health became a major talking point. He revealed he has a defibrillator, a device that regulates his heartbeat. “It went off in the shower this morning,” he explained. “The hospital diagnosed it as a heart attack, but they didn’t find any lasting damage. They checked everything out and gave me some strong meds to help me through today.”

While medical professionals suspect a heart attack, Rude isn’t convinced. “I was definitely feeling drained,” he said, “but I believe I can make it through the day safely.” He described waking up with chills, hopping in the shower to warm up, then collapsing. “The hospital says it was a heart attack, but I don’t quite buy it.”

Rude’s medical history sheds some light. In 2014, he battled a virus similar to COVID-19 that attacked his liver and heart. Treatment improved his liver condition, but his heart continues to give him trouble, hence the defibrillator.

Despite the scare, Rude dug deep and arrived mid-way through Day 5. Starting with a small stack, he quickly doubled up with pocket aces against a weaker hand. This isn’t his first deep run in the Main Event. In 2018, he finished a respectable 117th place, busting late on Day 5.

With 360 players remaining from a record-breaking field of 10,112, Rude is already guaranteed a minimum payout of $40,000. But his sights are set much higher. He’s determined to turn his health scare into a life-changing opportunity for his family.
