Abhisek Panda cuts ties with PokerBaazi and poker itself

At the start of this month, female poker pro and mental coach Maria Kirloskar ended a 2-year partnership with industry leader PokerBaazi, stepping down as one of their Team Pros. She cited personal reasons and endeavours for wanting to quit PokerBaazi, while also praising the brand and mentioning how much she learnt from the association with them.

Just a couple of weeks later, we have another seasoned poker pro who has decided to end his relationship with PokerBaazi and that is Abhisek Panda. As for Panda, he left a corporate job to become a poker pro back in 2016 and due to some successes in live tournaments in Goa, it wasn’t long before he was signed on as a PokerBaazi Team Pro.

These successes included an India Poker Championship (IPC) title and a couple of runner-up finishes and more Final Table finishes in the next couple of years. However, Panda’s last live cash came back in August 2018 where he finished 99th for €4,570 in the EPT National Event in Barcelona.

In a recent development, Panda became the second PokerBaazi Team Pro to quit the brand this month. Panda has dealt with considerable downswings and health issues in the past so we can only assume that this had something to do with his decision, as he is not only quitting PokerBaazi but the game of poker altogether.

Panda took to Facebook to announce this decision on June 26th, saying, “It has been a difficult decision, but time has come for me to part ways with PokerBaazi and Poker. This was a fun ride over the years and a great learning experience in the grander scheme of life. I want to thank Navkiran Singh and the whole PokerBaazi team for the opportunity and the support I have revived over the years and wish them well in future. I would like to thank the poker community for all the love and support I have received over the years as I am not going to be an active part of the community.”

Panda is yet to decide what he wishes to do in life after poker, but the youngster has several areas to explore and we wish him the best of luck with future endeavours. Until the next big poker related story in India or across the world, make sure you stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com.
